PSP Dead/Stuck Pixels!

Recommended Posts

Just got my psp at EB, unfortunatly I have 2-3 dead pixels and one stuck on blue. Not that disappointed as I bought the warrenty at EBgames for $25 and can replace it if I ever want (up to a year). Anyways if you're worrying about pixel problems....

-During (fast) games, you will not notice dead or stuck pixels. In Wipeout Pure, I couldn't even find them...

-During a game like Lumines, you will only notice dead/stuck pixels if you are trying/occasionally. When they're in the background of the skin on Lumines you can see them if you look there.

-On the home menu, dead pixels will be somewhat noticeable. Stuck pixels will be visible! It's a bit irritating, but I would hope you're not on the home menu too much.

-During loading screens, messed pixels will be easily visible. Black loading screens show stuck pixels, and white loading screens show dead pixels.

-During movies (spiderman 2 in my case) dead pixels were not at al visible. My stuck pixel was only visible during still parts, and wasn't too much of a deal.

All of this was with the PSP about a foot or less from my face. I moved it further and the pixels were HARD to see in everything except for loading screens, where they were a bit visible.

From my playing so far, I've found my stuck pixel is more annoying than the dead ones.

Overall, don't stress too much about messed pixels before buying. If you're still scared, but the extra warrenty (EBGames, at least my store, will replace items with warrenties due to ANYTHING. They've told me in the past that I could play frisbee with a used xbox game (which comes with a warrenty), break it, and just get a new one. When I asked about their dead pixel policy today, they said with the extra warrenty they'd replace the psp for messed pixels, scratches, dents, broken parts, etc.. I don't know if my EB is super-flexible or what, but if I dropped my psp in the store and it cracked in half, odds are they would replace it.)

So I'm going to keep my psp for now. If a month or a year from now I decide I'm annoyed a ton, I'll go in and get a new one for free. If I don't get annoyed, then I have something to identify my psp by (If it lost it's serial number and stuff).

Hope this helps for worried buyers.

Yea, I guess I will. I just don't know how long it'll be until they get another in for me...

Going on vacation for a week on Saturday, after that I'll go in.

Just wondering, anyone else got a bad lcd?

edit: reading over the replacement plan...

This agreement does not cover:... K.  Any pre-existing conditions that occur or arise prior to the effective date of this PRP

So I shouldn't have much of a problem doing it, the only thing is they get to decide if it's repair or replacement... I'm hoping they're not going to send away my psp for a few-month repair.

sigh... And it was the one thing beforhand I was worried about.

EDIT 2: Looking again and one of the "dead pixels" is actually dust I think, that's not good either. The stuck pixel is increasingly annoying as I play it more though

i got like 4-5 dead/stuck pixels.  I can care less, although they are a bit annoying.

If I exchange it, I might get a psp with even more

so you keep returning? That's why I would get it at BB, where I work, even if I get no discount on it. 30 days to return the mofo as many times as you need till you get one that Sony got right.

That's what I'm afraid of... I don't want to end up doing this over and over and have the exact same.

But I'm going to try anyways I guess.

seems there are other people (although it's the jap. ver) with dirt under the screen as well..

Let me add I'm still enjoying lumines and wipeout though :D

I'll see if I can get this sorted, or at least thought out with EB tomorrow out before I leave on saturday.

Remember dead pixels can reveal themselves over time, some people with jap machines have had them appear since they have had them, usualy between 4-6 weeks so keep your eyes out.

Mines been fine though. Also any news if these screens are samsung or sharp made ?? Where are peoples US machines made ? China or Japan ??

My friend returned his cause of 1 dead pixel, got home and the replacement had even more dead pixels, and he said the square button wasn't right.

IMO 1 dead pixel wont kill anyone, 2-3 you can be picky about, but 4+ replacement.

In your opinion... what about 1 dead pixel, one steck of dirt under the screen, and one stuck pixel?

Sadly I don't think I can make it out to eb today, but I'm definitely going to when I get back.

You're not going to return it? Screw that man. I would be in the store right away wanting an exchange or my money back.

Seriously. What good is a warranty if you're not going to use it? Might as well use a $20 and a $5 as toilet paper.

Glad to hear you're thinking of taking it back.

Yea, I've been saving up EB gift cards for a couple of years now so I decided it was time to use them :D

Turns out my family needs a cable splitter at radioshack today... I'll run over to EB if I can.

Hmm.. Might've seen something about how you have to call in to a PRP number before you go in.... I'll check that out

    • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.
