Strange 2000 Server Question

ok, i know enough of 2000 server to get by in all the cheapy ways, but a client of mine asked me an odd question the other day:

an employee had accidentally moved some files from one folder to another, causing everyone to think they were deleted. the client wants to know if it is possible to make it impossible for users to change the location of files...

so, anyone know how to make the files accessible, changeable...but not movable? except in a copy sort of way?

Heh...easy. Read up on NTFS permissions, as this was built for these types of situations.

Actually, what he wants it to do is tough. I have run into the same situation before. The problem is that Windows ties in the ability to move/create files or folders with the delete privilege. So if you want everything to stay as normal, and just take away the move file/folder privilege, you can't. You would basically have to make the folder read only in order to do that.

Zac is right... if you want to be able to change it, you can move it too... Better to simply educate the users and make absolutely certain you need to change the files. Also make sure they have a good backup solution.
