Tiger is at RC1

Well am I the only one who doesn't feel too excited over Tiger? I mean when Jaguar came out I remember (builds being leaked) and it just being the coolest thing ever coming out. Same thing with Panther. And now its Tiger, (not much leaks tho thats just a minor thing) basically we'll be seeing Panther, with a search box and a dashboard of things most of us will never use?

Tiger is a much bigger update than Jag or Panther.

Spotlight is not just a search box, it can be updated by developers with plugins and incorperated into applications. It also allows Smartfolders in the filesystem.

Dashboard will only get better over time. Once Tiger is released we'll start to see all kinds of widgets come out. Some useful, some not.

Automator will allow anyone to use AppleScript which is fantastic, and again is something that developers can add more functionality to with plug-ins.

There's also a new kernel that has been further optomized, improved Open GL, CoreImage, Quartx 2D Extreme, etc. We'll also get a faster version of Safari. There's also tons of little improvments like a built in PDF viewer in Safari, burnable folders in The Finder, PDF bookmarking in Preview, an updated Quicktime.

The coolest thing about Tiger is seeing what good developers can do with what Apple has provided.

Agreed 100%. I think Tiger is massive. Panther was so-so for me at best. Most of the additions were underneath. Tiger has huge additions on top and under.

Jaguar was easily the largest to date, but I think Tiger will be right up there.

I don't so a lot of gaming on OS X, but Tiger is supposed to considerably increase framerates over Panther

    • The level of stupidity at Google and Microsoft is beyond belief. All they are doing by killing this is forcing people to jump over to Firefox and ditch them all together, therefore giving Firefox the market boost it needs to finally crush them all in the end.
