NoneAvail
what will happen if there was a fly in the car, and the car was moving at high speeds and the fly was just staying there in the air....while the car moves, will the fly just fly right back into the back window or will it stay there? i was thinking bout this for a while and i cant decide what will happen what do you guys think will happen? psybapunk
the fly will move with the car as the air inside the car isn't moving at high speeds. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/302470-fly-in-the-car/#findComment-585692922 Share on other sites

psybapunk
yes, the fly is in the air, but the air in the car is stagnant unless you have the windows open. if the windows are closed the car is like a mobile bubble for the fly, nothing inside it is moving and the fly is free to do what it wants. dannyscott5
obviously he would hit the back window  think about it if the fly didnt move like when we dont move in a car we are sat down and so cannot smash into the window but if the fly is hovering in air it isnt going to move even thow the car is travelling at high speed unless eh           i have no idea wtf lol :pinch: :pinch: :pinch: :pinch:     Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/302470-fly-in-the-car/#findComment-585693157 Share on other sites
aishiteru
because of the car's acceleration, the fly will move backwards somewhat, but not as much as if you suddenly open the window and put the fly outside. After all, the fly is flying relative to the movement of the car. When the car is stationary, there are no forces acting forward or backward on it. When the car begins to move, it accelerates forward relative to the fly, and it is percieved that there is a force pushing the fly backwards. So simply put, the force pushing on the fly is the same as the force pushing you into the seat of your car under acceleration. PLCorndog
the fly will not move, as the air it is flying in has mass, and is also moving at the same rate as the car. so the fly will be stationary relavtive to the air it is in, but still be moving with the car. it will not fly back. Rob2687
Depends on the acceleration of the car, if its fast enough, the fly will go splat against the back window. ( Unless the car has inertial dampers. :p ) At what acceleration depends on a lot of factors... Shof
The fly will fly back abit because of gforce, the same reason why when you floor the gas,you get like pushed back into the seat and when your floor the brake, you get pushed forewared..thats the best i can do Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/302470-fly-in-the-car/#findComment-585694232 Share on other sites

gdodson
Since the fly is inclusive in the system, it wont move any differently than if it was flying outside on a windless day. I wont even budge if all it's doing is hovering. Simple physics. Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted March 30, 2005 Global Moderator Share Posted March 30, 2005 think of it this way. if the car is moving, and you jump, what will happen? you won't go up and down, you'll move back. If the car is accelerating forward, there is a percieved accelerative force pushing you backward. It is possible to swat a fly in a vacuum. To further explain, if you were sitting in a ferrari enzo, held a flat surface on your lap, and put a lead ball on that surface, and tell someone to test the 0-60 time of the car, the lead ball would start to shoot towards you. Simple laws of acceleration. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/302470-fly-in-the-car/#findComment-585694405 Share on other sites
Cube
if the car is moving forward at high speeds while maintaining a constant velocity then the fly wouldnt be pushed back, but under acceleration it would feel a force opposite of the cars motion Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/302470-fly-in-the-car/#findComment-585694429 Share on other sites
