Clamshell iBook

Recommended Posts

Apple's specs say that the maximum RAM installable in these is either 288MB or 320MB, depending on wether you have the 32MB or 64MB on-board model, meaning the max SO-DIMM is 256MB...but when I went to the Apple Store, they told me that I could put a 512MB SO-DIMM in it for a total of 544MB or 576MB, respectively. Can anyone on the board confirm that these machines indeed WILL take a 512MB stick? I just need to know before I go ordering the memory and Airport card from Macmall.

Thanks in advance. :ninja:

go to your apple store

ask if they can put a stick in so you can see what the max is

THey don't carry SO-DIMM anymore. Anyway, thanks, but I figured out: if the iBook has a Firewire port, it will accept the 512MB stick. If not, only a 256MB stick.

Yeah, I am getting this as a gift from an in-law (aunt) whose daughter no longer tours with her band. It was her road Mac. I am really hoping its the FW model, as I have pretty much come to the conclusion that, for me, Mac OS X is slow with less than 512MB, and any more than that is extra useful.

Oh I dont expect it to be a speed demon ( i had two B&W G3/500's with 10.3.8 at one point ) or anything but for my light email tasks and taking notes in my lecture courses for 3d Animation it will serve my purposes. I just want to load it with RAM to avoid disk thrashig as much as possible.

First iBook (Tangerine, Bondi) 300-366 G3, no firewire, max 288MB/320MB

Second iBook (Lime, Graphite IIRC) 366-466 G3, firewire, 544MB/576MB
