Programs with webinterface

Recommended Posts

Heya guys.

At the moment I'm often away from home, so I need programs that I can control via webinterface.

Preferably programs to manage my downloads.

I found a nice Torrentclient with a webinterface called TorrentFlux.

And I thought I could install an eMule port to acces the eDonkey2k network, but aMule crashes everytime I add a download and xMule doesn't provide a webinterface. None of the WWW Interfaces to MLDonkey work, neither does the one for the official client.

Are there any alternatives?

I thought of giFT, has anybody some experience?

What other programs have a nice webinterface?

Is there one for HTTP downloads?

Thanks,

k0zy

There are a couple of different solutions to your problems. Most people use: www.webmin.com for a web interface, however, for you why don't you just use a VNC?

VNC is sort of like remotely connecting to your desktop graphically. All the VNCs have their own special client to use to connect, but most now offer webbrowser java clients as well.

Here's what I suggest:

TightVNC Server.

Tell us what distro you are using so we can tell you the easy way to install it.

I dont use VNC, because

a) The X-Windowssystem isn't working since the last kernel image upgrade.

b) I don't want to/I'm not able to install VNC on the PCs I work or study on.

I'll try Webmin, thanks :)

IF X-Windows isn't working then you have no GUI in the first place right? It just seems weird that X-Windows won't work for you. And kernel update for which distro. A lot of distros have their own custom kernels.

Yes, no GUI at the moment.

I didn't have any time yet to look through the error messages.

It's something like "Failed to initialize Core device".

I'm using debian and upgraded my kernel with "apt-get install kernel-image-2.6XXXXX"

Usually that error means that you'll just have to reconfigure your Xorg/XFree86. It was probably upgraded and the old conf file was saved as Xwhatever.conf.rpmsave

Ever tried to use GUI programs, for example edonkey, in console?

Not very comfortable... Though I like centericq

@daRoot:

Thx, I'll try that! :)

If it was saved, can I just use the old config again?

Most likely. Couldn't hurt it anymore could it? :)
