in my life, cycling is #1, so i suggest you bite the bullet and get an entry level road bike for ~US$600 because cycling becomes incredibly addicting. you can usually find the trek 1000 for around US$550. if you just want some kind of crap go to walmart and get one of their junk made in china schwinn mountain bikes. regardless of what you get, make sure you buy a helmet. i had a really bad crash a little over a month ago which left me left wrist broken in many places and my helmet cracked all the way through. my head was fine though. if i hadn't had it on i'd be dead.

I'd go for a norco entry level bike IMO, because i loooove norco's and i have riden several models, something like a Norco Storm or the like sounds like it should suit you.

The norco bikes are amazing value for money and very tough, but you could also look at the specialised hardrock and/or some of the giant bikes.

My advice is to steer clear of trek however, i have had some bad experience with some hardtail treks, as they tend to be pretty badly specced for the price, and also a bit crap.

One final note: go for a hardtail, anything in your price range that isn't either stolen or second hand that is a full suspension bike will only impair your riding ability.

Don't go to Crappy Tire to buy a bike. There's tons of bike shops in TO.

The bikes are poorly assembled and don't last very long (bad quality parts). Trek and Specialized usually have good price points and make pretty good bikes.

You could also check police auctions.

ok, you live in 'sauga man! There's TONS of good bike shops there and in the rest of the GTA. The best I know of is Burlington Cycles. There are however a ton of good bike shops. Just go to a bunch of them and talk. Let them know you will not buy anything that day and are just doing research. Keep going back to those places a few times each and tell them what others have said and gauge their reactions. You will end up with a great bike if you read their expressions and listen carefully to what they have to say.

Also try going to www.mtbr.com and see what other riders are saying about the bikes (I would have claimed this was me advertising a few years ago, but I stopped working for them about 5 years ago, I still like the site though). Some are just plain trolling saying how good or crappy something is with little knowledge, but those are generally easy to spot.

DO NOT go to canadian tire or wal-mart, etc. for a bike. I did that as a kid and nearly got myself killed from mechanical failures with every single one of those crappy bikes.

You are living in a place that sells mountain biking equipment cheap. I need to pay 5 times as much for the same stuff here, so i always take trips to bc and ontario (wish I woulda picked up disc brakes while I was living in oakville). Trust me, go shopping around, go to the small family owned stores, go to the ones with teenagers working on the bikes, talk to the people working on the bikes and see which ones are coming back with problems the least.

and instead of the trek 820 I think maybe a trek 3700 would be better (if you're staying with trek) because it's pretty much identical, except the frame is aluminum, and a heck of a lot lighter. That 820 weighs a fair amount.

    • My wish list is: A trailer for Final Fantasy VII part 3 and a proper look at Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Not happening, but I'd kill for would be another game of any genre in the Frostpunk world and another game in the Detroit: Become Human world.
    • I tried Wino-Mail and had the same issue with it that I have with New Outlook: My two centurylink.net email accounts (one of which is my primary email account) refuse to work with either one, and sometimes refuse to even log in, even though ALL the relevant information is accurate. Thunderbird does not have this problem, so I'll stick with what works, thank you.
    • For me it has everything feature wise that I want. But boy the app sucks big time. This and Teams. Ever since they made the transition to WebView it has been slow AF. I mostly use both apps in the browser now because of too much memory being used by these 2 apps. Hoping that native versions are being worked upon.
    • Nearly 70% of Steam users now run Windows 11 by Taras Buria The May 2026 Steam Hardware & Software Survey results are now available on the official Steam website, showing Windows 11's continuous growth among the gaming audience. As of early June 2026, nearly 70% of all participants reported having a Windows 11-powered PC, while Windows 10's market share is steadily declining. According to Valve, in May 2026, Windows 11 increased its market share to 69.76% (+2.02 points), while Windows 10 dropped to 23.99% (-1.64 points). 64-bit Windows 7 is still showing up in Valve's reports, and apparently, about 0.07% of all survey participants still use the 17-year-old operating system. Valve no longer updates its client for Windows 7, but it still can access the platform, so the Windows 7 holdouts can stay away from newer Windows versions. Overall, 93.85% of all users run Windows (+0.38 points), while Linux is second with 3.99% (-0.53 points). macOS is third with at 2.16% (+0.15 points). The most popular Linux flavor is Arch Linux (0.35%), while macOS 26.4.1 is currently the dominant macOS release. On the hardware side, the most popular picks include an Intel processor (53.94% against AMD's 46.06%) with six cores (28.02%, -0.6 points), 16 GB of memory (41.14%, -0.28 points), and an NVIDIA graphics card (72.42%, with AMD having 19.13% and Intel 8.05%). The most popular graphics card on Steam is the desktop NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (3.85%, -0.14 points), while the laptop RTX 4060 is second with 3.77%, and the RTX 3050 is third with 3.10%. The average amount of VRAM is 8GB (25.89%), and the dominant display resolution is the classic 1920x1080 pixels (51.89%, -0.32 points). As usual, you can find more details from the latest survey on the official website. The results for April 2026 are available here.
