Bad computer probs.

Question

Ok built a new machine recently,

3.0GHZ proc

9800 Radeon pro

1GB DDR ram

400W PSU (Generic)....

Been having some problem since day one really, I use this machine for everything and when I play world of warcraft on it every 30 mins to an 1 hour the game gets REALLY choppy and the only way for me to fix it is to reload the game(I do this by turning on/off vertical sync).

At random times the screen turns to a cross thatch of grey pixels (Few RGB in there)

One time it shut off and would not turn back on.

It is restarting at random times and giving me this error message

C:\DOCUME~1\Jake\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER9db0.dir00\Mini040505-02.dmp

C:\DOCUME~1\Jake\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER9db0.dir00\sysdata.xml

Please help!

Thats what I thought but I re did cooling today put in a pci slot fan and checked mother board monitor

118F Cpu temp

105F Case temp

115F GPU temp

(I used a childs thermoter with the GPU) but it wouldnt go higher than 107F, but most of the time when I checked it was at 102-105F.

Pretty sure its not overheating.....

My case also has a hole in the side of it as a vent.

Total fans are.

1xCase fan

1xGPU fan

1xCPU fan

1xPSU fan

1xPCI slot fan

Other air mods

1xVent(Hole in side of case)

2xPci slots with holes drilled in them for flow

Generic PSU is your problem. Do you have another one you can test?

I dont have one but I could buy one, do you really think 400W isnt enough to run my machine?

The case is illuminated (Fan lights up) + 2 Frontal LED's.

So....

3.0Ghz HT P4

1GB DDR Kingmax ram

9800Pro Ati

80mm illuminated case fan

2 Frontal Led's

40GB Hard drive (Cant remember speed)

DVD Drive (Cant remember speed)

CD-RW (Cant remember speed)

All cant be run with a 400W PSU? The psu came with my Rosewill case.

It's all(or mostly) about Quality not Quanity of wattage.

Theres your first clue. Bundled PSU's are crap once in a swhile you'll hit a small tiny gem ( coolermaster's units) with bundled cases. But dont expect the majority of them to last until you grow a white beard. (so as to say ;) )

    • Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) 18.1.1.5 by Razvan Serea Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) is a utility for completely removing AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL graphics drivers and related packages from your system, attempting to eliminate all leftovers (including registry entries, folders and files, driver store). Though AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL drivers can usually be removed via the Windows Control Panel, this uninstaller tool was created for situations where standard uninstall fails, or when you need to fully remove NVIDIA or ATI graphics card drivers. After using this driver cleaner, your system will behave as though it’s the first time you’re installing a new driver—similar to a fresh Windows installation. As with all such tools, we recommend creating a restore point beforehand, allowing you to undo changes if issues arise. If you're having trouble installing an older or newer driver, try it—there are reports that it resolves such problems. Recommended usage: The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best. Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe). It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues. You do NOT need to uninstall the driver prior using DDU. Requirements: .NET Framework 4.8 Compatible with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11 (32-bit or 64-bit) Note: Using on Insider Preview builds is at your own risk. Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) 18.1.1.5 changelog: Intel: Added NPU presence detection before removing shared DLL files (these were previously left to prevent potential NPU-related issues). Intel: Added optional NPU removal Improved "Extension" driver removal process. Updated several translations. • I just ordered a new MSI X870 board, hasn't even arrived yet. I checked the downloads page, and it has the firmware released on 6/11/2025 including the updated AGESA code.
    • There used to be an independent video game store in West Edmonton Mall around 20 years ago, I'm not sure when it went out of business, but they were selling console & PC games for $70±, I think it was so they could cover their rent!
    • That adverting your referring to can basically be turned off with a few Windows settings. The only advertising I've seen in the last couple of years on Windows 11 is Outlook ads because I don't have a Microsoft 365 subscription. That said, it took me only a couple days to get used to ignoring those ads. I would prefer they weren't there but it's not a big deal.
