1) Yes (as long as you have purchased it)

2) Yes (it does what it was designed to do)

3) Yes and No (depends what you want to do)

Back to point 1. It is very expensive to use as a client based OS (you can buy 10 full XP cd's for the price of ser4ver). Yes you can get cheap versions and 180 trial versions, but MS intended these to be used in a testing environment, not as a day to day OS (even if you uninstall it after the 180days).

On point 2, it works very well as a server. Does almost everything a normal server needs to do. It has some flaws and doesn't include every senario, but as a server OS in a Windows environment it is good. (Ouch a penguin just bit me!)

On point 3. If you are playing games, email, web, graphics,..... you are better off with XP. In the home it is very unlikely that you will be having more that 10 users accessing an XP pc (XP can run as a server to some degree, think web/file/print).

my "guy wants to use server 2003 as a workstation" alarm just went off. ARGH!

i don't honestly see why people give a sh*t - sorry for that bad language its just getting to me how it seems everyone has ago at people who wanto run a server os as a workstation

oh and digitalsoft i've used it as a workstation quiete a few times (before the trail ran out :() and it runs great!

This is prob the last thread on "Server as a client" that I'm going to reply to or even read. 2-1 this guy will be posting in here in a day or two about drivers, apps,.......

As this is my last post on the subject I'm going to rant:

Server is not a client OS. It is a a server OS, hence the name Server.

On point 2, it works very well as a server. Does almost everything a normal server needs to do. It has some flaws and doesn't include every senario, but as a server OS in a Windows environment it is good. (Ouch a penguin just bit me!)

2003 Server is not a normal Server OS? Confused....

I have three clients all using it and they do everything a Server OS should do.

But as a client OS? Not a chance.

    • There is a lot of reasons not to use Edge but faster fixes and security updates is not one of them.
    • Can't reproduce. I installed Edge, went to neowin.net > accepted the cookie consent > used menu to go to forums, everything loads and I can browse around the forums. If you can't interact with the dialog on the forums for some reason, go to the main site and accept the cookie consent there? It is true that the site will not function properly until the cookie consent is accepted or rejected,. it's a legal requirement and I also know that certain VPN/ad blockers block it, which is a user related issue and not a neowin.net problem.   This is not our cookie consent dialog. Gotta love browser hijacking... /s Edit: this may be what Californians see, I will confirm with our consent provider.
