ADC 1 Time Student discount

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, i was just checking out again the ADC student package and you get the one time hardware discount.. im just looking at this PDF file i found on the australian page oft he apple site:

http://developer.apple.com/membership/au.html

i got here by going to the USA page and changing usa to au:

http://developer.apple.com/membership/usa.html

which i go to from the student developer site:

http://developer.apple.com/students/sthardware.html

Now if you look at the price list here (the PDF i mentioned above):

http://developer.apple.com/membership/pdf/...st_feb01_05.pdf

it doesnt seem this discount is really that big a deal.. because by the look of things the price is the same as the education price. the discount was one of the incentives in getting the adc student membership but if the discount is the same as the regular education discount then what would be the point?

im just wondering is this the correct price list im looking at or should there be another one somewhere? i remember reading people wanting the ADC Student membership because of the once off big discount but i dont see the point if its the same price.

can some1 please help me out here.

and sorry to start a new thread about this if i shouldnt.. atleast its not another i just go a mini or something thread.

btw im wanting to purchase the imac 20" (although waiting for updates) but if the discount is nice on teh powermacs i would go for it :)

thanks for your replies

Um, actually visit both the educational store and the ADC Hardware Purchase Store, the prices are different. The default PowerMac dual 2.5GHz on the EDU store is $2,699 (USD) and on the ADC Hardware Store it is $2,399 (USD), there is a substantial discount if you buy higher end hardware, a Mac mini, iBook, and iMac won't have as much of a discount as a PowerBook and PowerMac.

My PowerBook would have been $2,054 (USD) on the educational website, but since I got the Student ADC membership, on the Hardware Purchase site, it was $1,799 (USD), that's worth the $100 for the ADC. Not only that, I got a copy of OS X 10.3.5 in my first mailing, and I'm pretty darn sure I'll get Tiger for free once it is released. :)

well even with the ow end DP powermac..

student discount $2,814.90 and with once of hardware discount $2719.20 Thats not really very good..

adn teh 20" iMac which is $2699 EDU discount is exactly the same under this hardware discount.

even if i buy the best powermac DP 2.5ghz i can only get a $200 saving. thats australian too, we get such a crappy deal compared to you americans, get ripped with hiked up prices and dont get a decent adc membership discount. i know were not the only country to get screwed but its annoying.

Yeah I would imagine it would be annoying, I was just stating what the US store has. And I also mentioned that iMac's don't get jack for a discount generally from the ADC hardware store. It only seems to be on PBook's and PMac's, and possibly Xserves, though I haven't looked into that as I used up my discount, LOL.

yeah no worries man, you americans get it good, guess that comes with being in teh country of the company :p

it just annoys me cause a country like Japan gets prices at pretty much the same as the US store. like to buy in japan for me (when i move there) i will save like $150 or so aussie dollars and thats with no student discount in japan compared to student price here.

i just hope when the updates come they lower the prices a little :)

thanks a lot for your replies, i appreciated it. guess this topic has now served its purpsoe :)

    • Started implementing weapons! Here's a little sneak peek! 👀 Animation was done inside of Unreal Engine using Control Rig! Really useful tool, I don't have to go back and forth between Blender and UE, you can basically make tweaks while the game is running.
    • Keep in mind Intuit has lobbied like crazy to keep taxes complicated so they can continue to sell tax software. They also got caught hiding their legally mandated free version so they could release a second one that pushed countless people into charges they didn't need to pay to file. Intuit leads the charge on inventing problems so they can sell you the solution and disrespecting you in the process.
    • Oddly, there was a time that UFC games were culturally relevant, largely because of the graphics and gameplay that was different than the norm. But it seems like as the sport grew in popularity, gaming outlets stopped talking about the games.
