Hey all,

I am gearing up for Tiger and hopefully the announcement of it along with a revised iMac G5. When these are announced I will order straight away.

At the moment I have a Mac Mini and some fairly decent speakers but I will be selling my whole set up including the Mac Mini and my monitor to my brother as soon as my new system arrives. So, I will be looking to get some new speakers and this time I want some really decent ones. Can anybody recommend a good speaker setup, 5.1 or not, it doesn't really matter although 5.1 might be nice :)

They would have to look good and preferably match with my iMac G5.

So, please can anybody recommend any? Oh, as I listen to a lot of music the bass and all of that needs to be good on the speakers.

Thanks, it will be much appreciated. I can't make my mind up!

Lee

Well for the best sound you'd be best buying an amp and separate speakers then hook them upto your Mac Mini.

Without checking and from memory I thought that the Mac Mini only had 2.1 sound support? It's a bit pointless getting a 5.1 setup unless you get an external usb soundcard.

rc

Sorry, maybe I didn't make it clear but I am selling my Mac Mini to get an iMac G5 and I need new speakers for that, not the Mac Mini.

Oh, I thought the iMac G5 did have 5.1 support? I don't know, maybe someone can clarify?

I have saw a couple models of Altecs which I did like, I will do a bit more research. Not buying any yet though.

More opinions always welcome :)

Thanks guys,

Are the default iMac G5 speakers that are in-built any good at all, or are they just decent?

And it seems there is 5.1 sound support:

Starting with the new headphone jack that?s also a mini-optical plug. So you can watch DVDs and listen to them in 5.1 surround sound.

altec lansing fx6021.  the quality is awesome, bass is great too and those satalites are really no match for any other (same price range) spaeker set.

    • I'm not aware of this issue, but to help the other guys.  What version of Android are you using? Did you try a different browser? To see if Edge is the issue here.
    • I agree when are you going to read this (really poor BTW) article? Here is a better article so you actually know what is going on and answers questions you had in other comments --> https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2026/05/speed-boosting-low-latency-profile-is-one-of-the-improvements-coming-to-windows-11/ It is unclear if one will be able to disable the new profile at this point but I am not seeing any reason why one would.
    • I disagree; they come off very "bitchy" and "whiny". Make a great product and combine that with a great price (free) and people will come over to your side. Or build it and they will come as they say. Constantly trying to get attention by complaining all the time, will turn people off to your product.
    • It use to be a nightmare, with LibreOffice supporting a newer draft ODF standard by default, and Microsoft Office supporting the older non-draft standard. Now that they both support the same version of ODF, they should be interoperable.
