Cyclic Redundancy Check error

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody,

I have been trying to get some old stuff off a CD i burned a while back, but every time, i get an error saying:

Cyclic Redundancy Check error with the file name in front of it...

Does it mean my cd is corrupt?

Will it fail every time?

What can i do to get the stuff on it?

Thx in advance

David

The CRC check you speak of is a kind of checksum check. It's basically referring to the fact that your CD is corrupt. Now, it could be that the actual CD is corrupt, or it could be that your drive is struggling to read it properly. Try it in another drive, and try wiping the CD with a soft non-abraisive cloth.

There are some programs that will try to read the data many many times until it reads it, but I forgot the name of the program.  Maybe someone else knows.

Iso Buster?

That program takes a humongous amount of time trying to ecover a disc and even then it might not be able to read it..

I use this to recover data from disks with the problems you're writing about.
