ATI Radeon 9600 XT PC in a Mac?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to put a Radeon 9600 XT PC in a Mac? If so how would i go about doing this? Firmware update? some type of Hack? If its not compatible what would happen if i did it? Would it fry the card or would it just not work? Also What would you recommend and how big of a difference would it make right now i have 768 MB of Ram in my Mac. Would it be worth taking the 512 stick out of my PC and put it in my mac so have 2 512 sticks for a gig and have the PC have 256 MB of ram from the mac? I have a Dual Powermac 867 MHz G4 Mirror Door.

hmm would anyone happen to know where i would beable to get the firmware? or intructions on how to do this. The mac and PC both have AGP and its a AGP card so i dont think the connector should matter as far as the screen connector i use the DVI so i dont need the ADC connector.

A Google search for "Mac ATI flash" will probably turn up some good results for you.

Hi, I found this site http://www.cubeowner.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=8798 and I was wondering if anyone knew. It says the Instructions are the same as flashing the 8500 but does that also mean the same Firmware? I looked on ati's site at the firmware and it lists the following cards.

RADEON MAC EDITION (PCI and AGP)

RADEON 7000 MAC EDITION

RADEON 8500 MAC EDITION

RADEON 9000 MAC EDITION

RADEON 9200 MAC EDITION

RADEON 9800 PRO MAC EDITION

RADEON 9800 PRO MAC SPECIAL EDITION

Nothing about the 9600 XT. I can't find a ROM update for that anywhere.

The document says that they have had high success rates with the 9600 XT PC version. But i didn't want to go ahead and do it yet because the ROM update page doesnt list the 9600 XT so i didnt want to use something that wasnt compatible. But the flashing instructions they say are the same as the 8500 so maybe that means the ROM is the same?

    • Sound Booster 1.13 Build 575 by Razvan Serea Increase volume on your laptop. Boost the volume of even very quiet speakers. Raise volume above maximum. Letasoft Sound Booster can be used as an extra amplifier when the volume of the program you are listening to is too low for comfortable listening and you feel that your PC’s speakers can produce a louder sound. This can be the case when the audio or video has been recorded at the level below normal. Or, for example, when the other person’s microphone you are talking to on Skype, is not working properly. There can be a plenty of other reasons why the sound is being too quiet and there is not much you can do about it except buy external speakers. Sound of any application that is being played in the system can be amplified up to 500%. Letasoft Sound Booster can raise volume of programs like web browsers, on-line communication software (Teams, Discord, Zoom), any kind of media player or games. Simply put, volume of virtually any program that can play any sound in PC, can be boosted to a comfortable level with Letasoft Sound Booster. You can control current volume with the pop-up slider from the system tray. Alternatively, you can assign system-wide hot keys for increasing and decreasing, and use them when you need to adjust volume Letasoft Sound Booster constantly monitors current gain level and prevents samples from clipping, thus reducing all major sound distortions. • I own these and the normal QuietComfort ones from Bose. The QC are amazing and I want to love these, but for the life of me, I have a terrible time getting them attached to my ears.
    • Thanks for the tip. I am giving it a try. Initial quick impression: I like it.
