I had quite a scary problem with my Mac Mini yesterday. I inserted a blank DVD and nothing happenend. It didn't appear in Finder but fortunately I just restarted and the DVD was spat out to my relief.

Hope all goes well and you get the problem sorted out mate!

Did you get that Little icon aswell with "?"! When you couldnt get the CD out?

Nope, it spat the blank DVD out and carried on booting as normal. I have read that some people have had to reboot numerous times before it decided to spit the disk out but I guess I was lucky.

Macs have issues just like any other. Apple remains high in customer service, though.

Most Mac users are big internet users and there is also a community of users like no other. You tend to hear about Mac problems more than other computer makers, but I think it is because of the two reasons I just stated.

i had the same problem.. look what i do:

1st i insert my MAC OS X CD... (Panther).

2nd turn off and then turn on the mac mini.. (keep the "C" letter pusshed down).

3erd in Disk utility change the boot secuence...

4th Restart. And you are Done...

This is a problem with the boot secuence.. you probably change it to start first from the Network.. and you should put it again to Start in Mac OS

Hopefully this may help..

It's not the problem. The system's not actually finding his System install. It's not delayed like you would get if the boot sequence was changed. His Mac isn't finding anything to start up from.

I'd guess your HD is shot, but Apple would have to make the final diagnosis on that. Sorry this had to happen to you on your first Mac experience. It's really electronics in general just have these issues. Don't be turned off from Apple by this. I can guarantee you that plenty of Dell and HP users have similar problems daily, so nothing really changes no matter where you go. Once your Mac mini works well though, I think you'll love it. Especially with Tiger coming soon. :D

    • Well I've done a grand total of nothing, and it now clocks between 2010mhz and 1995mhz (stock is 1710mhz) and hovers around 80c, warmer than it used to, but tolerable clocks seem to have returned. Thanks for all the advice on this thread. Will review the evidence and make a choice.

    • I really wonder if this has to do with the built in VPN or "private DNS" of browsers that trip up legal requirements like cookie consent and Cloudflare (to avoid all the botnet attacks we get). And BTW some botnets still manage to get past Cloudflare, we are constantly having to tweak it to block malicious traffic that ultimately cause a DDoS.
