deep-blue
Okay, with the sort/amount of work i do on my powerbook, i decided to partition my HDD with a 50/10 split, so that i can save all my work on the 10gb section...problem... I've figured it'd be easier to save/backup/keep safe all of my docs/music etc on that partition, by moving the home directory...only... How can i move the entire of my Home directory onto another Partition? I would try just dragging it, but last time i tried something i was unsure of like this, i delete GB and Office 2k4....oops... Many Thanks... Deep Blue Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/311883-moving-my-home/ Share on other sites

FOOOD
Do you mean how to copy the data over, or how to get OS X to recognize your home folder is in another location? I copied my home folder from the default location to another partition dragging a folder or 2 at at time (e.g. Desktop, Documents & Library. Then once they've copied over I copied Music, Pictures etc.). The new drive (partition) is called Data. Then open NetInfo Manager (in Utilities) Go to users>'Your user name' Unlock (at the bottom) to make changes Then change the home location Original: /Users/'Your user name' New: /Volumes/Data/Users/'Your user name' Then log out & log back in or reboot. Always works fine for me  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/311883-moving-my-home/#findComment-585816017 Share on other sites
