Problems Installing Linspire 5

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I am having problems installing Linspire 5. I burnt the downloaded ISO, I tried booting the pc with the Linspire 5 CD. All goes well till the menu (to choose Update, Advanced or Live Option).

If I select any of the three options, the whole thing crashes with a ?Fatel: CD Search Failed? error. Check out the screen shots, the best I could before the battery on my digi-cam ran out (grrr, one of those days I guess).

Anyways, anyone as any idea what the problem could be? My pc is a AMD Athlon 64 with 1gb of RAM, CD drive is Sony dual layer dvd drv.

i finally got around to check the md5 hash vaule, and it is the same as published on Linspire's site. I dont understand at all, what the problem could be. I have tried burning on 3 diff burn speeds.

The next I have to do is to find someother PC to try it. any other ideas?????????

You might try burning on a different brand of disk but I doubt thats it anymore. I don't know why I didn't catch this before but is Linspire 64bit compatible?

It shouldn't really matter as the A64 can still execute 32 bit code remember ?

If this doesn't work, I always recommend ubuntu!

I will try with "noacpi". No, I haven't tried the disks on another PC, but will be doing just that tomorrow. I have burnt 6 disks till now, diff brands, diff burn speeds, all the same result.

So now I am positive that it is not the CD or the ISO, it has to be the hardware. I just now got an email from the Linspire Support team:

" Please try with another CD drive if possible.

You can also try installing Linspire by attaching the harddisk in another system and put it back to the system and reboot."

Never knew I had to do a song and a dance to get this OS installed, but wont give up that easily.

well I had experience with linspire already and let me tell you the graphical user is horrible, in order u to download updates u have to pay a fee a year and u have to use only KDE, does not support gnome, so I really recommend u to download another distro easy for the beginner, like SUSE, MANDRIVA, or UBUNTU.

good luck!
