[Definitive] Xbox 360 Thread

i apologize if this has been brought up before, but is xbox 360 backwards compatible with xbox games? i've searched only to find conflicting answers and i've been told in person that it isn't. so, yes or no? and if it is, will it require the harddrive? the only game i want to play is ssx: on tour. i currently do not own any console and i must have this game, but it just doesn't make sense to get xbox now when xbox 360 is coming out so soon.

Yes it is, if you have the hard drive. It may not be compatible with 100% of games though.

There should be an initial list of games in the coming weeks. After the Xbox 360 ships, additional Xbox games will be supported via free updates downloaded via Xbox Live.

You can stream Music and Photos from any XP machine.

To get Video and TV you need a Media Center.

Would it be possible, through 3rd party software, to stream video to the 360 without WMC?

That's impossible to say at this point. It would be interesting to see if anyone comes up with a way to do that (without modifying the Xbox 360 console itself).

Alright, I have one question (which no one can probably answer yet, but never hurts to ask) ... can I install Mac OS X on it? :p

I'm just curious because no one would ever want to spend the huge sums of money on an Apple computer if they could buy this and install Mac OS X on it.

So basically I can't view my recorded TV Episodes on my PC... but I can music? That don't make no sense. :( Being able to watch live TV I could understand, but not prerecorded stuff. :\

I sure as hell hope so... As far as I know, they haven't really been specific on what you can and what you cannot stream with whatever system you have... I'd say that chances are you can't stream video natively but using some third party software it could be possible. Who knows though. I definately wouldn't mod my 360 just for that purpose though. What a waste, you could just burn the video to a VCD or DVD just as easily.

I hope so, too. It's not the reason I'll probably purchase a 360, but everything counts. Being able to stream all multimedia to your console - and hence to your TV/stereo system - is just more icing on the cake. I think it's something that Sony and Nintendo should take into consideration, as well. And this should be a very cost-effective bonus to customers.

    • Microsoft now allows you to tweak Visual Studio to new extremes by Usama Jawad Visual Studio 2026 recently netted a powerful feature that finally allows developers to review Git Pull Requests (PRs) directly in the integrated development environment (IDE), without needing to switch to the browser. However, that's not all that Microsoft introduced in the latest version, as it also offered a useful way to customize the IDE to their heart's content. Although Visual Studio 2026 already provides lots of stock themes based on Fluent Design principles, Microsoft understands that people still want to customize them further according to their preferences. The IDE now offers a new configuration page for themes under Tools > Options > Environment > Visual Experience > Theme colors. This allows you to set hex color codes for accent colors, hover states, and more, and apply them without requiring a restart. The Redmond tech giant further says that: Microsoft is also offering granular color tokens that allow you to customize various UX elements like the tab header without impacting the rest of the shell chrome. Your themes are also stored in JSON format in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\18.0_xxxxxxxx\ColorThemes, which basically enables you to share it with others or override existing themes. This is a major improvement in terms of the user experience powering these customization capabilities. This is because extensions were required to replace the theme, and it was not very easy to make minor adjustments. This theme configuration UX solves this problem and is available in Visual Studio 2026 version 18.7, available here.
