My vehicle is parked outside most of the time (no garage/carport/etc) and this can not be avoided.

Spiders seem to love my vehicle, and lately it's getting disgustingly bad.

I used to use bug spray on the shell of my car to deter them, but this spray lasts only a day or so and the webs return within a week.

Seriously, what's a good long-term solution for this?

Can you cover it with those covers? You know what I'm talking about. you mean, you are finding web around the body of your car?! If so I don't think spiders would make webs underneath a cover.

The covers most likely would also get webbed by the spiders, and to be honest would be highly inconvenient.

...you've either got 50,000 spiders that aren't territorial, and happen to nest on your car.

Or you're not driving your car enough. Mine doesn't even get spiders after a week, and I live in the bush.

I drive it commonly enough, just it's always parked near bushland which doesn't help.

Is there any type of surface spray against bugs which wouldn't be harmful to car paint?

There's something that is attracting the spiders. Perhaps something

inside the door panel that you can't see. Or something inside that

the spiders can sense that you can't see. A nest of bugs under

the drivers seat maybe.

Perhaps it's the location that you place the car. Something about

the ground or building it's in. A dead animal that is attracting bugs

which are spider delicacies.

When you fumigate the area, be sure to get it down inside the door

and also under the seats of the car and in the engine compartment.

I park my truck in an open shed and sometimes it sits for days

before I drive it again. The roof of the shed has a nest of bats :x

that gather during the day. Snakes are attracted by the bats.

One two mornings I came out to find a snake on the top and

hood of my truck trying to get to the bat nest. One was about

5 feet long and the other was a 3 or 4 footer. Most likely

non-poisonous but startling nontheless.

My Scary story, well not really.

My truck used to set in a garage since my parents got it in 1995. Well in May of 2003 my parents bought a new truck. We have a two car garage, so that left my truck sitting in either the front or back yard, or on the street in the summer.

When I had to have the clutch replaced because it had been slipping. The truck is 10 years old and just about 80,000 miles so a new clutch was in inevitable spring 2004.

The guy we took it to install said he found a rats nest just to the side of the transmission. He even showed us the nest. No rats/mice though. I suppose the rat had to climb the tire, because my truck is just about two and a half feet off the ground for clearance.

Sometimes I get spider webs from my side mirror to the door. They fly off pretty quick though.

Get cobwebs on the mirror in the morning sometimes on the Land Rover, but it's easy to get the spiders out of there quick smart as there are heating elements behind the side mirrors. Meant to be for getting ice off them for those mornings when you just cant help but camp in the snow I guess.

I used to have this problem all the time... bad enough where people liked to stare as I drove by them.

The spiders liked to live inside my mirror and put webs all around the side of my car at night. I took the mirror apart, found a nest that hatched and there were about 10 spiders in there. Took them out... cleaned the nest, then put it back together. Car was great for about a week then it started up again. So i took the mirror apart again and there were spiders crawling out of it as I took it apart. I sprayed the inside with wd40, put it back together, and haven't had any problems for about a year now.

I'd take a look at your mirror, as thats where they are probably hiding.

OR at least one: Will a long-lasting surface spray damage my paint job?

Possibly... some will. Check the label. Don't know of any brands that could help you. I'd worry about them staining the paint or making them crack.

Hmm, there always does seem to be a large amount of webbing particularly around the mirrors, especially the passenger side (recently more the drivers side).

I might try your advice and massacre the mirrors using WD40. Can't hurt too much.

Thanks.

When I wake up tomorrow I'll see if there are any webs and try to get some photos if there are.

Greed is main driving factor behind its adoption; the other is remaining relevant in the face of competition from other entities.
