i was contemplating on whether to get the 512 mb shuffle for 99$ or not. i work out at the gym and would enjoy the very small mp3 player to use in school and at the gym. it seems pretty cool, but i hate iTunes. if i got the iPod shuffle, would i have to use iTUnes? or can i just drag the mp3 files onto the iPod? i think i read i can do that, but i want to be like 100% sure of it before i buy one.

here....

iTunes is REQUIRED to load playable music to the iPod (you can use for data storage but anything loaded through this method will not allow playback). The iPod uses an index/database to keep track of the music that is on the unit, thus requiring iTunes to transfer the music. Granted, you can use WinAmp, etc... to load music if you so desire, (with extra plugins and such), but overall iTunes provides a much cleaner interface, and it interfaces great. There is nothing at all wrong with the iTunes software, and even before I bought my iPod a year ago, I was using it.
