It uses CSS to block content. You can easily block/unblock individual images, links and iframes. Its not easy to setup like Firefox adblock extension but it works very well. They are working on an easier method to install this script.

There are three versions, I'm using the c++ version. http://nontroppo.org/wiki/OperaAdblock

I think I'll stick with the Opera Ad Filter/filter.ini. It's easier and doesn't take extra system resources to use.

This doesn't take any system resources, only thing this does is it excutes a 79k file to write the url you want to be blocked, to a file. The exe never stays in memory.

No ads on neowin :D

Why block Google ads? Or any of Neowin's ads for that matter.

They help support this free service which you are abusing, and they take next to no bandwidth.

I'm on dialup internet, and Google's ads don't even slow me down.

Personally, I _hate_ ads and the way I fixed it is with AdBlock from Firefox while subscribing to neowin :)

I don't see the problem with people going out of their way to block ads, it only proves that they would never click them anyways. If they never click on them then what is the point of downloading them? If you download the ads and never click them you cost the advertisers more money to pay for the bandwidth charges. Advertisers having to spend more money on hosting results in less revenue going toward the sites which place the advertisements.

I also hate hearing the "click them anyways once in a while" comments, that saturates the hits/success ratio and reduces the amount of money advertisers are willing to spend for placing the advertisements; afterall, why pay to place advertisements if the majority of hits they receive aren't converted to customers or long-time users? If advertisers knew that you were asking people of that they would hit you in the head with a hammer, or a lawsuit. Quit running scams.

People who block ads do less damage than those who download advertisements and never click on them. They also do less damage than those who click on advertisements with no intention of buying anything. Leave them alone.

Ads I find distracting from the main information, I don't care for "Next generation Smilies" or "Lovely Wallpapers" or "Your Computer has Spyware, please click here" and the countless other crap that flashes and takes 1/4 of your screen. I'm willing to pay for services when I see fit, for example, If I used Neowin enough I'll pay for a subscription, same for any other service.

Sorry if I sound stupid or rude, but what was your point and how did it relate to my post?

    • Seems like Neowin has transitioned into being simps for the white house. I can't find a review for the last UFC games that came out.
