You're giving money to Neowin. Boobless is not.

Am I really the only person who sees what people like Boobless do as stealing?

It's upto each person to stop or show ads on their computer. Some do and some dont. There's not much the mods can do about it. For instance, I block ads on almost all other sites I go to but I dont do it for Neowin. I like to see the occasional ads sometimes after Admuncher has removed most of them.

They are not stealing a thing.

This is my computer, right? So I can decide what to see or not. I don't even give a look to those banners, so these extensions are pretty useless to me, but if anybody feels them as distracting, well... they can hide them and surf in happyness.

There is really no point in arguing this, because I've said this countless times. Yes, it is your computer. But if no one paid to put up a website, you wouldn't be able to view anything. Using the Internet costs you money, but it also costs money for the people who put content up on the web. Are you paying for their bandwidth? Didn't think so.

The truth is, this doesn't really belong in this topic, but Chode brought it up, so I decided to comment.

I know. I pay to connect to my ISP, and that's all. :sleep:

This was said countless times, too, but is a sad reality: if a website can't keep itself up without tons of ad, then it's not a website I'd care of. :no:

I pay for my bandwith. They pay to expose contents. Nobody is giving us charity. :no:

I don't see the problem with people going out of their way to block ads, it only proves that they would never click them anyways. If they never click on them then what is the point of downloading them? If you download the ads and never click them you cost the advertisers more money to pay for the bandwidth charges. Advertisers having to spend more money on hosting results in less revenue going toward the sites which place the advertisements.

Huh..?

Neowin does get revenue with just having the ads being displayed, so I don't know where you got your info from.

Eitherways, how nice of some of you to block our ads :rolleyes: Running a site like neowin takes a LOT of resources, it's not just some server at home trying to make some moolah. It's your computer, but it's just greedy to be using services of websites that provide content only by volunteering people at no cost. Money must be growing on trees for you people.

Back to topic, I think that this extension is far too limited in functionality to be called "AdBlock" for opera.

AdBlock is a content filter, meaning that it can block the download of any file/image/flash linked in a page, insteading of downloading and hiding them.

And there are other bells & whistles in AdBlock to make it easier to use.

This does the very same thing. After blocking the "file/image/flash linked in a page", clear your cache and refresh, it won't even make the connection to download the file.

No, I'm not paying their bandwidth, and I have no intentions of doing so. I don't see why I should. This actual site has given me quite little, all I come here for is provided by the users. Skins, software help and the seldom threads of discussion.

Either way, it's THEIR bill, not MINE. I have absolutely NO obligation, AT ALL, to pay a dime for Neowin, regardless of whether you think I'm wrong, greedy, lame or whatnot. The fact remains there is 0 obligation for users to pay for their stay at Neowin. If Neowin needs money that badly, they can start banning users who block ads or require a subscription fee for users to post. Until then, people should stfu and stop bitching IMO. But we're all entitled to our views. :)

Yes, it does. Thanks for correction! :)

Some suggestions:

- support for wildcards (ads change quite often);

- an interface for modifying rules (not just remove);

- the installation has to be simplier (too complicated for new opera users);

you also have the right to leave and not post any other single lines too

yup that's your choice. Some day you will work, have wife or husband, children and you will know what are bills. I mean real bills. Neowin is a real bills for neowin admins

As I use neowin like any other person here, I subscribed and also I dont block ads from neowin with the modified version of AdBlock for Firefox.

why? Because I want neowin to survive

that's all

Also the extension has to clean blank space better. eg also remove the empty div, td, tr, table, span left after removing the image or link.

Personally I use proxomitron, so I don't have to deal with any of this, but for people who might want an even more adblock like experiance, they should check out the beta AdMuncher that adds right click support for all major browsers to block ads. Granted it's pay ware, but I do pay for software I like/use a lot.

    • AFAIK you shouldn't be getting a consent popup at all from Canada, so I think it is to do with a VPN or private/secure DNS.
    • From what I see it's only for Insider - preview builds. Not for everybody. So...
    • Of course, all of that sounds great on paper... No it doesn't!
