Just to be more specific, here's a few things I think have changed for the worse:

Tabs, the prominent inactive tab in particular, it doesn't blend into the tab pane at all

The All Programs section on the start menu looks misplaced, as well as the bottom pane looking bolted on

The start button having a button style border to it by default looks odd

The blue taskbar button is a different shape to the regular buttons

Take all that with a pinch of salt, it's just my opinion, but Smooth Gnome as done by Schmoove was pretty much a perfect theme, I can't see what could be improved, but looking at the screenshots I can see it going in the other direction.

You've got very good eyes Dazzla. I did not see any differences at all...

New taskbar, more like ubuntu linux, new window edges, new start menu

585845966[/snapback]

Huh? More like Ubuntu Linux?

First, Ubuntu doesn't use SmoothGnome, it used a modification of Ximian Industrial (called Human) in the past. Now it uses a modification of ClearLooks.

Second, my port was a 1:1 copy (as close as it gets, well apart from the windowborder, because I thought the original sucked) of the original SmoothGnome which I made using Ubuntu Linux in VMware to take screenshots that way.

So how can you say that your mod is gonna make it look more like Ubuntu :s

Anyways, good luck with it, hope you make something nice of it.

Though I honestly think the things you did with it made it uglier then it was.... sorry.

  • 3 weeks later...

1) i dont like this new style on close/max/min buttons over windows

2) i dont like 48px size of icons @ start menu (32px is the standart that should be used, u can make some substyle with 48px icons as the addition)

3) i dont like coloured taskbar, the way that active application looks mostly

u made this beautifull linux port looking like windowns, thanks alot, but i dont need linux port looking like windows

pixel-work is cool, professional, but it just dont satisfies my taste

ps: its only my opinion, sorry. peace.

    • You are clueless. The updates are done in the background so the next time you open Edge the updates are applied automatically. There is no need to close all your tabs. Just keep browsing like you normally do. Clearly you don't use Edge and are just one of those haters that complain for the sake of complaining.
    • I don't get this David. Can you explain it please.
    • Microsoft is busy. Lots of changes to be released imminently for Windows server or soon. Also, lots happening for next version as well. Third party virus scanning software is being moved out of Kernel mode to avoid repeat of Crowdstrike incident. Windows Protected Mode and Windows Ready Print no longer require third party print drivers to be installed. New storage stack being developed. New NVME drivers now available for Windows Server 2025 to improve local NVME drive performance by 60+ percent. NVME-Of of fabric being worked on for next release to improve network access to NVME drives. ReFs (next file system) now has ability to boot and will become default file system in next release of Windows Server. ReFs improves on NTFS in several areas including resiliency and reliability and scalability. New update stack is being worked on to unify Windows updates, and updates for drivers and first party/3rd party application software. A stricter and more robust third-party driver certification program (ODI) is being worked on to improve performance, thermals, battery life, and reliability on modern Windows hardware by tightening how OEMs and IHVs (Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, etc.) build and ship drivers. There is a tone more but too numerous to mention.
    • Now disable that stupid OneDrive backup request when Windows starts please. So unbelievably frustrating to only have “remind me later” instead of “no and never ask me again”
    • Hello, The Media Creation Tool is still at v10.0.26100.7019 from October 2025. Just looks like the backend has been updated. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
