George A. Romero's "Land Of The Dead"

Recommended Posts

First of all...the trailer looks like complete crap...the zombies look like the monsters and vampires from the Buffy TV show, and productions that would hire somebody like John Leguizamo are bound to fail.

Oh poor George Romero...what has happened to you? You used to make some damn good movies. I mean he created the genre and now it looks like some bad Resident Evil knockoff when Resident Evil was supposed to be the knockoff! The production values and makeup just make this thing look...pretty low grade.

What throws me off about the trailer is, that movies become very cheesy when is about something dead and all of a sudden they cant think of anything else to do to it, so they make the dead thing "think" and "communicate". I mean come on, that just kills the whole scary part of it, the whole spontaneouity of the movie. The trailer doesnt look half bad, is just that line kind of killed it for me, it just made me think twice about it now.

"There is no emoticon for what i'm feeling" oh hang on yes there is :

You've awoken somthing like spilling radioactive waste on a graveyard:

Romero what have you done, I love Zombie films and face it Romero does them best, or at least DID them best.

I know that i'm jumping to a lot of conclusions here but i've read the script and the images here pretty much just fill in the pictures in my head.

Zombie films should be about messing with your mind, die and your one of them hurting the ones you love etc, the whole point is how people deal with the situation, more so than the zombies themselves (watch the original Dawn if you don't know what i mean)

This (although the rock music doesn't help) looks like a resident evil type film rather than somthing similar to dawn or day. The script isn't very strong and i've got a really bad feeling about this, still i may be wrong, lets hope thats the case.

My point is this though, Zombie movies should be above all depressing, like watching footage of Nagasaki or Hiroshima, sit back and make you think what would you do? Not run about shooting etc, because lets face it in the real world it wouldn't be that huge an issue, think end of shaun of the dead.

28 days later had a scene similar to what i'm talking about, when jim goes home to find his parent have comitted suicide, this is what Zombie films should be like not action films, more drepressing = more scary, jumping out at people doesn't equate to a great zombie experience.

Resident evil 2 the game was scary because it was about survival horror, take this away and your left with the special ops game from 3 runing about shooting looses the atmosphere and any scary moments, it becomes about making people jump rather than people scared.

Rant OVER

When theres no more room in hell...The dead will walk the earth

You guys sound like you just watched a special screening of the film which allows you to make a very objective judgement about this film.

What utter crap!

I didn't think the trailer was that bad, and even if it was, I wouldn't go around condeming Romero without any merit.

A trailer is bad? So what! Most of the movies out there actually have great trailers and they turn out to be completely rubbish!

Romero is a champ in this genre, and I think he will deliver. At least I am hoping he will give us a decent horror flick compared to recent crapfests we have been forced to indulge by Hollywood.

You people are unbelievable.

The trailer is crap!

Romero lost his touch!

omg it's Resident Evil 3!@@@##$$##oneone!

How can you possibly pass judgement on the movie when all you saw was about 45 seconds of video of it? The man CREATED the zombie flick, I seriously doubt he'd even remotely screw it up. People have been clamoring for him to make a new Dead movie for YEARS and now you get it, and you complain instantly.

All I have to say is:

Dennis Hopper + zombies = pure ownage

"GapeThatAss" put it best in the AintitCool talkback when he said...

"Cuz maybe Romero hasnt done **** for years? Hmm could that be it? or is That the last few projects he was involved in were PILES OF **** and the man Reeks of Desperation? Cuz the Teaser trailer has the same Look, feel as DOTD 04 and has that ****in truck & scenario that looks like it was ripped right outta DOTD 04. You geeks are in such denial. Ppl like romero and Carpenter are Beyond their prime. They cant make original films anymore let alone GOOD films. Romero Should get on his ****in knee's and SUCK THE ###### of everyone involved with DOTD 04 cuz if it wasnt for that movie being a good film and being such a big hit - His LOTD script would be being used as Toilet paper in some Universal executives office right now. I cant wait for the Eventual Geek Denial followed by a huge backlash when this movie turns out to be a HUGE let down."

this is a teaser trailer put together by the distrobution company so it's trying to appeal to the most common denominator. but it is a proper sequal to the day of the dead from the man that made the originals so i will give it a the bennefit of the dought for now and also it looks like they are expanding on the bub storyline from day of the dead which should be intresting

i love zombie ever since i whatched return of the living dead when i was 6

this off the yahoo site:

Release Date: June 24th, 2005 (wide)

Release Date Notes: (4/26/05) The film is opening five months earlier than previously announced on June 24th, 2005.

Title Note: (1/7/05) No longer known as "Dead Reckoning," the title is officially "George A. Romero's Land of the Dead."

Distributor: Universal Pictures

Distributor Note: (8/24/02) This was previously mentioned as being released by Anchor Bay Entertainment release, which traditionally handles mostly just video releases, but Romero announced at Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors last week that Fox has come aboard instead. The difference is that Anchor Bay was willing to give Romero a budget of $3-4 million, while Fox is willing to pony up the full $10 million he wants to make the movie his way (which is still pretty cheap in the grand scale of Hollywood budgets). (1/16/03) AICN reports that Fox has dropped out of this project, with director Guillermo del Toro ( Hellboy , Blade II ) now helping Romero find financing and distribution. (3/7/03) I've received word that the budget that Fox actually offered Romero was $7.5 million, and that it was actually Fox Television Studios that wanted to produce it (for FOX TV?). The deal would have allowed Romero to have all the gore he wanted on the eventual DVD, but he withdrew because he wanted this to be a theatrical release, and that's what he's continuing to look for to this day. (1/7/05) Universal will be releasing the film.

Cast: Asia Argento (Slack), Simon Baker (Riley), Dennis Hopper (Kaufman), John Leguizamo (Cholo), Robert Joy (Charlie), Pedro Miguel Arce (Pillsbury), Krista Bridges (Teahouse), Phil Fondacaro (Chihuahua), Jason Gautreau (Gus), Max McCabe (Mouse), Sasha Roiz (Manolete), Christopher Russell (Barrett), Alan Van Sprang (Brubaker), Jonathan Walker (Cliff Woods)

Director: George A. Romero (the Night of the Living Dead films, Monkey Shines, The Dark Half, Creepshow, Bruiser)

Screenwriter: George A. Romero (Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, The Dark Half, Monkey Shines, Knightriders)

Based Upon: This will be the fourth film in the George A. Romero zombie series that began with Night of the Living Dead in 1968, and continued with Dawn of the Dead in 1978, and Day of the Dead in 1985, along with a 1990 remake of NOTLD. The Return of the Living Dead series is completely unrelated, as is Children of the Dead, an unofficial sequel to the trilogy directed by John A. Russo, who collaborated on NOTLD. (3/23/03) The preview page for the newest remake of one of Romero's Dead films, 2004's Dawn of the Dead, was added this week.

Decades Note: A common concept in discussion of this series is that each of the first three films represented the decade they were filmed in. The chink in this concept is that there was no fourth film made in time for the 1990's. But... you could consider the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead, directed by Tom Savini, as a sort of 1990's entry in the series, as it heralded the wave of remakes of classic films that became so common in the 1990's. Sort of.

Premise: In a modern-day world where the walking dead roam an uninhabited wasteland, the living try to lead "normal" lives behind the walls of a fortified city. A new society has been built by a handful of enterprising, ruthless opportunists, who live in the towers of a skyscraper, high above the hard-scrabble existence on the streets below. But outside the city walls, an army of the dead is evolving. Inside, anarchy is on the rise. With the very survival of the city at stake, a group of hardened mercenaries is called into action to protect the living from an army of the dead.

Old Premise: Set many years after Day of the Dead, society has returned to life in a new way, with the zombies rotting away into irrelevance (disregarded the way homeless people are), as human survivors live in a fortified city, trying to live normal lives. Protecting them is an enormous tank-like vehicle called the Dead Reckoning, the length of four city buses, with the artillery and firepower of a small nation. This story shows what happens when the Dead Reckoning's reasonable leader, Riley, loses control of his command, and the destructive Cholo takes over instead. Now, Riley must try to take back control of this powerful vehicle, while at the same time... having to battle his way through a city filled with zombies...

Filming: Filming began on October 11th, 2005 in Toronto, Canada.

Genre: Action, Horror, Sequel

Rumor Control: Corona (great archive of scoops about this project, dating back to 1997)

WACUP 1.99.51.24568 Preview changelog: Fixed a deadlock seen from the recent crash reports when doing some of the drag + drop actions within the media library window Fixed a loading crash seen related to a problem with some of the artwork cache image files being restored which should now be better handled allowing for the bad image to be removed without it failing Fixed a deadlock seen from the recent crash reports when the internal metadata cache clearing is triggered which could block the main ui thread for too long with this now being moved to a background thread Fixed some performance issues with some of the methods related to determining artwork support which mainly affected the local library import / refresh (this is still slower for some compared to other players because there's more data & artwork aspects being checked for which means doing more processing on a single file despite the best of attempts to reduce duplicate / heavy processing where possible) Fixed a crash with the JTFE based missing files hotkey which no one seems to have used for an age for this to appear (maybe it's time to seriously consider stripping out features that aren't being used) Fixed how some of the file types which use extra information to reference their sub-songs is handled which was preventing some from being correctly resolved back to their base file (noticed fixing above) Fixed an issue with the handling of files with underscores in their filepath which wasn't being correctly handled causing some of the filename to be lost when shown as the title if title reading is delayed Fixed a few things that might be behind NotSoDirect not being stable for some setups though am still not certain that the changes done for this are going to fully resolve the problem from the crash reports Fixed the OS toast handling when there's no prior shortcut in the OS start menu to now create the shortcut (needed to allow the yes/no buttons for the new build / post-release toast) to be done as a hidden one so it's less likely to cause annoyance for those not wanting to see it whilst still allowing this less than ideal OS api implementation requirement to be met to avoid toasts without the needed buttons Fixed a regression when moving from taglib1 to taglib2 which broke some of the handling in place to allow for external programs to still access files when wacup has a held open cached instance of the file Everything else Updated cppwinrt (gen_win10shell.dll) to 3.0.260520.1 (26 May 2026) Updated libcurl (libcurl.dll) to 8.2.1 (24 Jun 2026) Updated Monkey's Audio (in_ape.dll) to 13.15 (28 Jun 2026) Updated mpg123 (mpg123.dll) to 1.33.6 (6 Jun 2026) Updated OpenSSL (libcurl.dll) to 3.5.7 (9 Jun 2026) Updated pugixml to 1.16 (16 Jun 2026) Updated taglib (tag2.dll) to 2.3.0 (11 May 2026) Updated vgmstream (in_vgmstream.dll) to the latest Git commit from 28 Jun 2026 Download: WACUP 64-bit | 9.6 MB (Freeware) Download: WACUP 32-bit View: WACUP Website | Screenshots Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
