Jaded
Hey I recently got some money and I am having a hard time choosing a new car. So far I have narrowed it down to a Golf GTI 1.8T, Cooper S, Mazda 3 or 6 sport. So does anyone have any major reasons over why to get one over another? SierraSonic
I still will recommend a 2006 Civic Si... From your list the best car is the M6, but still the 06 Civic, atleast test drive it when it comes out. ;o~ Plus the gas milage, and the speedyness. MR_Candyman
the mazda 6 is by far the best on that list. The cooper's pretty cool, but really, it's still a cooper. golfs are unreliable as hell mazda 3 to me is pretty weak, and a little cheap feeling Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/315803-hard-time-choosing-a-new-car/#findComment-585864409 Share on other sites
kombolcha
another vote for the Mazda 6 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/315803-hard-time-choosing-a-new-car/#findComment-585864474 Share on other sites
xmr
the Mini Cooper S, because it's a Cooper. That reason far outweights any of the current arguments. Make sure you get a John Cooper Works one though and you won't be disappointed by the performance. +Random Stranger Subscriber¹ Posted May 3, 2005 Subscriber¹ Share Posted May 3, 2005 (edited) mazda 6 is quite good. looks are alright but not too great in my opinion. i was actually considering it as my new car too, but changed my mind as time went on. nothing special. 2.3 sport mazda 3 is nice (looks better then 6 imo) but only if you are a relatively small person. i am way too big for it, so it should be a consideration. but is size is no problem - mazda 3 2.3 liter is sweet. i approve. golf GTI on other hand is FANTASTIC. they new redesign for this year (not just visual - engine, handling, etc are way more important changes) had a LOT of improvment gone to it. so of you dont might a bit of reliability issues (as brand new car most will be covered by warranty anyway) ps. mazda (even though its japanese) has its share of reliabily problem too. own brand new car had over $2000 worth of replacements under warranty within first year. so i am almost positive your problem experience will be partly based on luck, esp with brand new car. so again, get the new gold gti - it is actually worth the GTI label again (just like the first one), unlike the models of past years. http://www.channel4.com/4car/road-tests/V/...golfgti05-.html trust me, people who are complaining are basing their opinions on the previos models, not the new one. new GTI is quite special car. trust me, it is the one i would not mind be seeing. and i mostly like prestige bigger cars. just test drive it  180 hp, 4-cylinder Turbo engine is the one used in audi a4, for last few years, and they were quite reliable. Edited May 3, 2005 by panacea Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/315803-hard-time-choosing-a-new-car/#findComment-585866593 Share on other sites
Jaded
^^ im not what you would call a small person, im about 190cm (~6'2") so headroom is quite important. On one hand I do like the 3, but i've heard/read that the radio head unit is custom and cannot be replaced with an aftermarket one. Also right now I do own a '98 golf and love the handling in it. So I guess its between the 6 and the GTI now. I'll probably just end up test driving both for an hour or so and taking the one I like. After that its off to the performance/audio shop :shifty: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/315803-hard-time-choosing-a-new-car/#findComment-585870196 Share on other sites

danniboi
What ever you decide to buy, make sure that if its a new model for that car, it has at least two years under it's belt. Their always finding so much defects the first couple of years that its best to wait a couple years for them to fix most of them. Cars in general are hard to purchase. You'll find brand new cars voted as dependable at the dealer getting fixed and same goes for others. So much tech involved with cars now-a-days, its hard to say what car is best or worse. An example is my wife owns a '97 Grand Am SE and it has over 130,000 miles and it's been to Florida and back to Chicago 5 different times and we put a hitch on it and traveled every time with a 5X8 trailer towing it and its still running perfectly minus small stuff like battery, radio, etc.. Just make sure you take care of it and if it's brand new, don't be flooring it until it's been driven a few thousand miles. Break it in first  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/315803-hard-time-choosing-a-new-car/#findComment-585871886 Share on other sites

+Nik Louch Subscriber² Posted May 11, 2005 Subscriber² Share Posted May 11, 2005 I would go with the Golf. It will serve you VERY well. Nice Euro-looking car, good potential for modding, and all the cool kids have them. Hatchback is the new 4x4!
