I don't judge people on their postcount, however I feel a lot of members here do. I judge on the grammar and punctuation of the post as well as its relation to the topic, as this gives a much better measure of the quality of the member in question.

<<snipped>>...no personal attacks

i dont care about postcount. i care about my subbadge and helping fellow neowinians with their problems. and this stupid poll just causes alot of geekfights and unnecessary discussions.

agreed, it is what you are posting about and what is in the post, not how many of them you have. ;)

This poll is actually misleading.  Matter in terms of what?  Respect?  Shoe size?  Ability to play Doom 3?

matter in any way other than statistics.

ie reputation, respect, beleivability, amount of an a$$ someone is, etc.

Hell no. But how did this thread hit 4 pages? Post padding again?

It doesn't effect anything but I think it is nice to set a goal (1000 in 1 year) and try to meet it.

You know what, that's not a bad goal. I think I'll try for that one. But it's complex. It involves posting and sticking around long enough (not getting banned) to accomplish it.

Stupid question, stupid answer, NO it doesn't. The mere fact you are asking this implies that you do. No offence.

He opened the poll because he mentioned that post count doesn't matter in Site & Form Issues, and one or two of the mods took issue with his saying that many people don't care. So he opened a poll to see whether he was right.

People SAY that postcount doesn't matter but the stink would be incredible if we ever talked about hiding it or removing their stars.  We had a rush of new subscribers after we found a way to give them a subscriber badge while keeping their stars.  People love their stars.

I would be fine if we hid/removed post count.

id say in some ways yes it matters...if you see someone with 2 posts making an outlandish claim...it would be hard to believe...but someone with 20000 posts makes one...it may be worth looking into...because if they havent been banned after that many posts, they must at least show a little quality :)

Not really, because people don't get banned for spamming. There are hundreds of posters whose post count is made up mostly of one word posts like "ok", "lol", "good one", "interesting", "thanks", etc.

They can be. They can, and certainly have in the past, received warnings.

I've been on this board, for a very long time, and stick by a maxim to only say something unique, original, and helpful. Forums are not like actual conversation where you can gloss over certain needless points, but a large glut of posts can not only disguise an important topic but sometimes drive important topics out of existence.

So - post when you have something important to say - no more, no less.

I've seen you get a grilling that you spam, it must be a little annoying when you do genuinely help people in the hardware section alot.

I personally would say that I have a low percentage of spam posts, and always try to help where I can. So in my case, my post count does matter, because I've tried to contribute to the community, and not just tard it up.

Some people all they do is "Lol" or "congrats" all day. They may as well not even bother. It's not like anyone actually knows them.

Exactly.

Bingo. If the poll was "should the post count/stars be removed", you'd see a landslide in favor of 'no'.

    • Anyway to download these versions without being on the Experimental builds?
    • Nothing is stopping you from continuing with your testing cadence. If updates are released every 2 weeks instead of 4, and you test once every 4 weeks, the exact same amount of patches will still be available for you in those 4 weeks. For example: Before 4th week - patch 1, 2, 3, 4 After 2nd week - patch 1 and 2 4th week - patch 3 and 4 Still the same amount after 4.
    • Everyone else has said it. I'm gonna say it - you don't know what you're talking about. I do. I have two laptops. One work, one personal. I have access to two more laptops - both personal. At home I manually update my personal laptop when I see on Neowin that there is an update - I carry on and only apply the updates when I am ready. My work one only updates when my workplace decides to send it - I carry on and only apply the updates (when they actually arrive, which is usually days after the release) when I switch off the laptop at the end of the day as usual. The two other personal laptops only get updated when I get to it which is rarely - the people who own them carry on using them until I get to it and update them. All of the browsers on all laptops are configured to restore the tabs when launched. Google and Microsoft have changed from 6 weeks to 4, and it looks like it's going to move to 2. None of these changes affect how any of these browsers on the laptops are used. Not one jot. My advice to you is stop panicking whenever you see an update. Just carry on with what you're doing. This even benefits you in a way - from your comment you sound like you don't like the changes or the frivolous new features - great - then carry on as before!
