I think Neowin without postcounts would get rid of the spammers, e-penis post count people, etc etc.

It is nice to hit a x000 count every once in a while, but I could live without it.

I just hate that people are like "well that guy has the higher post count, so he must know what he's talking about about. Your postcount is only 300, so you obviously know nothing". And yes, I've actually read something to that effect in the past week.

That's why you always have a lot of stars, like I do. Granted they aren't under my avatar by what the hey.

Yes, It is not the be all and end all, but I think it matters in terms of people assessing what type of neowin member you are.

if you only have two posts, people can tell your a new person and welcome you. If you have a lot of post people can respect you and know that you have been a dedicated neowin member for quite a while.

It's not a big deal, just a little thing which I think can be useful from time to time.

In my opinion, I believe that having more posts just means you have more things to say than the average browser of that forum.

My dog says a lot, too.

Doesn't make the barking any more meaningful. :p

no...different is different. this poll is "does post count have any impact on reputation, trust, amount of stupid a person causes, etc" the other poll is "should they take down the numbers and stars so everyone is judged by quality of posts, not number" > different.

Tomato, Tomatoe

It's the same thread since post count is directly related to stars. :pp

"does post count have any impact on reputation, trust, amount of stupid a person causes, etc" -- Where is that in the poll question?

'tis not the same poll.

This poll is asking an opinion of users; whether post count is of importantce and/or would cause you to make judgemental decisions based on them.

My poll is specifically asking "Would you like to see the post count as well as the stars removed from the neowin forums?".

Although they may aim to grasp the same general consensus, the differing results further prove that they are in fact not being considered identical questions.

Funny, I tend to 'respect' those with lesser post counts. someone for example with 2-3k posts when only joined last year, is someone I would consider annoying. Just gets old when every topic you read in on, you see the same bunch of kids writting the same responces; Already Posted, lol, haha, Congrats, +1, pwned, Firefox pwns, Opera Rawks, ect...

It's pathetic. All you guys with all those posts and only been here a year or two, for gods sake, get out and get a job/girlfriend or something. I pity you guys.

Anyways... to hell with post counts, stars, ranks, whatever. Rid them all. We're all equal, that's bottom line.

ahh I did not want to post here but after reading your post sin?......:p:p I guess you would consider me "annoying" but it is actually people like you who I find a bit annoying, you walk around and act that omg I have been here for three years and I only have 500 some posts, all my posts must be non-spam intelligent posts!!! I am not saying that is not true, but just because someone such as myself who has only been here around 7 months and has 3200+ posts it does not mean that all my posts or even a majority of them are spam..... just look at my profile almost half of them have come in HH helping people......I mean even 2 oyourb> last 6 posts have just been emoticons that?s it, no words nothing, and yet you said it gets old to read "the same bunch of kids" posting stuff like that.....Come on man lighten up you do not need to get all bitter about a silly post count.....

Hehe...nice response, but simply wrong. Postcount doesn't matter in principle, but you dare take away people's stars (which are directly a result of post count) then they show their true colors.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • Anyway to download these versions without being on the Experimental builds?
    • Nothing is stopping you from continuing with your testing cadence. If updates are released every 2 weeks instead of 4, and you test once every 4 weeks, the exact same amount of patches will still be available for you in those 4 weeks. For example: Before 4th week - patch 1, 2, 3, 4 After 2nd week - patch 1 and 2 4th week - patch 3 and 4 Still the same amount after 4.
    • Everyone else has said it. I'm gonna say it - you don't know what you're talking about. I do. I have two laptops. One work, one personal. I have access to two more laptops - both personal. At home I manually update my personal laptop when I see on Neowin that there is an update - I carry on and only apply the updates when I am ready. My work one only updates when my workplace decides to send it - I carry on and only apply the updates (when they actually arrive, which is usually days after the release) when I switch off the laptop at the end of the day as usual. The two other personal laptops only get updated when I get to it which is rarely - the people who own them carry on using them until I get to it and update them. All of the browsers on all laptops are configured to restore the tabs when launched. Google and Microsoft have changed from 6 weeks to 4, and it looks like it's going to move to 2. None of these changes affect how any of these browsers on the laptops are used. Not one jot. My advice to you is stop panicking whenever you see an update. Just carry on with what you're doing. This even benefits you in a way - from your comment you sound like you don't like the changes or the frivolous new features - great - then carry on as before!
