Hey, I only have a 500mhz ibook, and virtual pc is just totally gay on it, I was wondering if there's a way of getting rid of MacOSX all together and put win2k or something on it?  :pinch:

No. Microsoft doesn't have a version of Windows for the PPC platform. :p

Well, you can put Linux on it if you want (there are PPC versions available, the best IMHO is Yellow Dog).

I doubt Virtual PC has a sexual preference.

and Windows not on the PPC platform.

Well, there WERE versions of Windows that ran on PPC (NT 3.51, 4, and some betas of 2000), and there were betas of OS X (then known as Rhapsody) that ran on x86, and Darwin still does.

Well there is... Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0 and Server. OEM Disk (Only for distribution with "new" servers/pc's)

"Disc contains code to run on Windows NT compatible x86, Pentium, Pentium PRO, MIPS R4x00, Alpha and PowerPC systems".

"Disc contains code to run on Windows NT compatible 486, Pentium, MIPS R4x00, Alpha, PowerPC, and Pentium PRO".

None which are on the market so its not even worth mentioning.

I realize that (although you can download Darwin from Apple if you want). My point was there is reason for a newbie to wonder why you can't since these did exist at one time.

NT will not run on a Macintosh though, it was only for the following PowerPC systems:

Austin PowerPlay, Bull ESTRELLA, Canon PPC 604, FirePower Powerized ES series , IBM Personal Computer Power Series, IBM RISC System/6000?, IBM ThinkPad Power Series, Motorola? PowerStack RISC PC series, Tatung TPC-5740, Zenith Data Systems Z-POWER series.

It seems like microsoft should make a version of Windows for the Mac.... I guess the developement costs would be more than they would make though... Probably would have to change a lot of code to work on the PPC archtecture.

Most people buy macs for OSX anyways.

I would almost say beef up the RAM in the iBook to at least 512MB or more, or max it out, and buy a copy of OS X 10.4 "Tiger" and then get some apps that replace the ones on Windows you would want to run, except the actual exclusives (some of them being from MS like Visual Studio, etc) then see if you want to put Windows on that iBook. If not, please send the iBook to me. :)
