fgggg
Hey, I only have a 500mhz ibook, and virtual pc is just totally gay on it, I was wondering if there's a way of getting rid of MacOSX all together and put win2k or something on it? :pinch: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/318377-windows-on-ibook/ Share on other sites

PureLogic
I doubt Virtual PC has a sexual preference.?: 585896800 Yeah some people really have a hard time understanding that. Together with the fact that Mac OS X won't run on the x86 platform and Windows not on the PPC platform. Southern Patriot
and Windows not on the PPC platform. 585896818 Well, there WERE versions of Windows that ran on PPC (NT 3.51, 4, and some betas of 2000), and there were betas of OS X (then known as Rhapsody) that ran on x86, and Darwin still does. SAMeAiM
Well there is... Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0 and Server. OEM Disk (Only for distribution with "new" servers/pc's) "Disc contains code to run on Windows NT compatible x86, Pentium, Pentium PRO, MIPS R4x00, Alpha and PowerPC systems". "Disc contains code to run on Windows NT compatible 486, Pentium, MIPS R4x00, Alpha, PowerPC, and Pentium PRO". rustyPixel
na Ubuntu :D Ubuntu Rocks! 585895203 I prefer Gentoo, thank you very much. :D But yah...OS X runs on PPC, and Windows on x86 instruction sets. Unfortunately you'll have to run Windows on an emulator (i.e., Virtual PC) if you want it to run. Southern Patriot
None which are on the market so its not even worth mentioning. 585897129 I realize that (although you can download Darwin from Apple if you want). My point was there is reason for a newbie to wonder why you can't since these did exist at one time. PowerStack RISC PC series, Tatung TPC-5740, Zenith Data Systems Z-POWER series. Skyfrog
I wondered that myself; why pay more to get a Macintosh only to run Windows on it? Just get a cheap PC and be done with it. mr_skrilla
It seems like microsoft should make a version of Windows for the Mac.... I guess the developement costs would be more than they would make though... Probably would have to change a lot of code to work on the PPC archtecture. Skyfrog
It seems like microsoft should make a version of Windows for the Mac They are already considered a big bad monopoly, if they ported Windows to the Macintosh it would just make the government(s) come down even harder on them and of course Apple wouldn't be thrilled about it either. Martog
I would almost say beef up the RAM in the iBook to at least 512MB or more, or max it out, and buy a copy of OS X 10.4 "Tiger" and then get some apps that replace the ones on Windows you would want to run, except the actual exclusives (some of them being from MS like Visual Studio, etc) then see if you want to put Windows on that iBook. If not, please send the iBook to me. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/318377-windows-on-ibook/#findComment-585897886 Share on other sites

Southern Patriot
you could use NT4 for PowerPC dunno if it will work 585899585 Nope, it won't. The PowerPC versions of Windows were not made for Macs, but for some other brands of PowerPC computers.
