It's only 3 sets and they sets only contain a few icons. It would take less then half an hour.

Oh, and the sizes should be 128, 96, 72, 64, 48, 32, 24 and 16 ;)

Dazzla, you're going soft in your old age!

Where's the 256x256 & 512x512 sizes? C'mon guys, some of us run hi-res!!!:p

(Yes, I want these icons converted. However, please follow the board rules in doing so!)

I'm not sure if windows users can see this, but there is a pict clipping included in every .sit, kinda like a readme. Here's what it looks like:

That to me seems to suggest that porting isn't entirely out of the question.

My suggestion would be to email Hein Mevissen at [email protected] and ask for clarification on whether he allows porting. Of course, this only applies to icons downloaded from www.mixthepix.com.

[edit] I can see! I can see![/edit]

I just know I was turned down HARD by Hein earlier in the week. He said he "absolutely did not want any of his icons ported over to Windows at this time!".

Maybe it was my stunning personality that made him so friendly.

Anyhow, the links in question aren't for Hein icons, they're for Jesse Welch's Macromedia MX set. No permission text is included in the .zip. If someone wants to contact Jesse, a link to his email is on the front page of Xicons.

If anyone can get Hein permission, I have a very good reason for wanting his new icons (they match my Quantum theme!)...please send the permission over with the converted sets! If anyone gets Hein permission, you'll be my hero!

Hein.jpg

Email has been sent, and rest assured, that if permission is granted to a few of us, it doesn't mean everyone can convert them willy nilly.

As with Max and his Milk port, he asked for a limited amount of people converting so he could keep an eye on quality. I don't see how this should be any different, these icons are of exceptional quality and I'm sure if he gives the go ahead, he will want to keep them that way.

Well, an update on Hein's icons, here's a reply to an email I just sent:

Hi,

thanks for the nice comments.

I want my icons only in OS X format.

That's where I created them for.

So I hope you respect that and don't distribute my icon in Xp format.

I have several reasons for that.

Hein Mevissen

Good job that Marvilla created a kick ass tutorial on converting icons, no-one's got an excuse for not having these fantastic icons ;)

Yea guys, I have all these converted, but I have emailed Hein twice about distributing them, but he STRICTLY doesnt want any windows users to distribute these. I just obeyed what he said. Just dont give them out. If you really want to, email the person that is converting them, dont make it public.

Sorry for posting the icons without permission i just like them and after converting i decided to post them, i'am sorry for that and i didn?t want to cause any damage to the author work or make bad publicity, so here are my official apologies to the author and to deadzombie (who was fast enough to deletemy links).

P.S. i will ask permission next time (lesson learned)

deadzombie, how can u be the head janitor and a moderator at the same time? ur gonna have to give one of those titles up, dude. i very seriously doubt the union will continue to allow u having 2 job titles much longer. ur gonna have to talk to ur steward about this!! LOL. also, by 'head janitor', do u mean u r the chief janitor or the one who cleans the toilets? j/k. my suggestion is to keep the highest paying one and let somebody else have the other. just my 2 cents..... :) btw, those icons will look great with ur new theme. i've already converted those while waiting on ur theme release. also, i'm still trying to learn how to use that sharpie with a length of string tied to it and and anchored with a thumbtack idea u gave me a few days ago. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, DZ.

First, seems that being a moderator is nothing more than cleaning up other peoples messes. I can't tell you how many times I've had to pull out the sawdust this past week to cover up someone puking on the threads... (I know, this analogy is nasty, but I think its too funny)

Second: This is a great way to handle copyright. The guy asks we don't distribute and everyone respects his wishes. Joao, I wouldn't worry about those links you posted -> did you receive my email about the situation?

Third: What about the other sets? Don't bother converting the Jaguar icons, I already have all but 2 of them converted (not counting the ugly printers). But I'm certain that permissions for the other sets could be acquired...anyone have the time to track them down?

And last of all: Don't worry about the Hein's icons. Someone I know with excellent icon skills (not me) is working on a set similair to Heins. This could be cool.

yah you can convert them really fast.

unstuff

load all the icons into gif movie gear.

strip out everything cept the 128x128 frames

export as psd

open the psd run marv's action (with my addition the cuts the current frame out of the psd with all the icons and puts it in a new psd thats 128x128 then starts and deletes that layer)

make the icon

do about 2 a minute.

Problem being, converted icons need additional sizes added to them, which takes a little longer than 15 minutes. Read throught the front of this thread to see what I'm talking about.

i have already asked to convert and distribute heins apps before...he said i could convert them but do not distribute them...the tutorial by marvilla is very easy to understand and use...the only problems i have had is trying to make the icon out of PSD formats for the different sizes in articons pro v3.2.

Perfect...thank you joao for the conversion, and Jesse Welch for creating them and giving permission to have them ported and shared! :D

    • I wonder how many are laid off for cost savings, and this being blamed on AI to make it sound less scary and bad, for a more positive "modern, with the times" spin for investors? Because Oracle is down 14% the past year. We're looking at a company struggling here. If AI would actually be working out so well for them that they can do massive layoffs, surely this would've been reflected the past year in their stock value?
    • AI is the beginning, wait until real robots replace more jobs, specifically jobs that require physical work.
    • AI is indeed eliminating jobs, and Oracle just proved it by Hamid Ganji There’s no question that AI has become the hottest trend in workplaces, and every company is trying to adopt AI-driven solutions across its operations. While some industry leaders repeatedly say AI won’t lead to massive layoffs, recent data suggest that AI is actually one of the main reasons some companies are reducing their workforce. According to Oracle’s annual regulatory filing, the company has laid off about 21,000 employees, or 13% of its workforce, amid increasing AI adoption. “The adoption and deployment of AI technologies across our operations have resulted, and may continue to result, in reductions to our workforce,” Oracle said in the filing. The software giant now has approximately 141,000 full-time employees, a notable decrease from 162,000 during the same period last year. Restructuring expenses, including severance payments, cost Oracle $1.84 billion in fiscal 2026. Additionally, around 49,000 Oracle employees were based in the U.S., while approximately 92,000 were employed internationally. Like many other companies, Oracle has fully embraced AI and concentrated much of its efforts on the technology. The company is also a key participant in the United States’ $500 billion Stargate Project, which aims to build multiple AI data centers across the country. When it comes to AI adoption and its impact on the workforce, opinions remain divided. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, whose company has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom, recently said in an interview that attributing job cuts to AI is a “lazy” narrative. “The narrative that connects AI to job loss, for many of the CEOs that are doing it – it is just too lazy. AI has just arrived, how is it possible they're already losing jobs?” Huang said. However, statistics and recent reports tell a different story. According to Layoffs.fyi, 196 tech companies have laid off about 119,800 employees so far this year. Reducing staff and replacing roles with AI agents could become one of the most significant trends in the job market in the years ahead.
