No regret so far, but I just got my 12" PowerBook last week. So far I've only used my PC once and that was to transfer my songs and pictures. Why else would I use my PC? It's slower, isn't mobile and runs Windows. I like OS X better and am really getting into UNIX (I can already see how it rocks the DOS world).

If you're on 'detail' view on the Finder, click the column 'Kind' and it'll sort the data by Folder, alphanumerically, then the files. I think that's what he meant...

Personally I prefer to Column view for everything except when I am previewing images. I wonder, there MUST be a way to have the finder create a slideshow for a directory of images, without having to go via Spotlight. Alternatively you COULD selecta all, drag to Preview and hit slideshow, but it'd be nice to have a slideshow like Spotlight does, for a folder full of images... Any ideas?

No regrets at all. I made the switch about 2 weeks ago. I have the 15" PowerBook with superdrive. I cant really fault it. Small, light, quick.

There are so many little touches that make you love owning a mac. Right down to the powerlead... seriously ... First the is no annoying "block" half way along the cable and second the plug has little arm type things on it for you to wrap the cable around when you travel. Genuis.

And dont even get me started on the backlit keyboard. I NEVER want to have to buy another average Windows system again.

I don't have a mac yet, but after using one for a while, I think I will miss the start menu quite a bit. it just seems like home on my windows machine, but its nothing I am worried about, I am already adjusting to osx.

Download Quicksilver. Launching apps is so damn nice using this. A quick key command brings up the bezel window, i begin typing and it instantly shows results (like spotlight). I couldn't think of a quicker way to access my apps - I can't use a Mac without it. I'd say you certainly wouldn't miss the start menu - why would you, when you could just drag the Application Folder to the dock, and a command click will show the contents - there's your very own Start menu...

If you open a folder full of images, select the ones you want in the slideshow, and then right click on one of them, it will give you an option to start a slideshow in the contextual menu.

To answer the OP's question:

I have used Macs all my life, except for a 1-year period when I didn't have one. After that year, coming back to a Mac was like dying and going to heaven...

My regret: Buying ram from Apple. And as if that wasn't dumb enough, I bought an extra 256MB module (which cost $70), instead of 512MB. Later on I had to sell it and buy a 512MB from Crucial. I would have saved more than $50 bucks had I bought the ram from Crucial in the first place.

Cheers dude, I never thought of doing that. I wouldn't mind a 'Slideshow' button in the toolbar though, that would be nice...

I regret getting a Shuttle XPC at Xmas instead of a Mac Mini... this thing completely kills it everywhere. Sold it but made a bit of a loss.

Yay for my media lab at college being full of macs - with a few g5 imacs, g5 power macs, and g4 lampshades - introduced me to Macs and now I adore mine.

Also gets me away from that crappy black plastic pc hardware. I thought my creative 5.1 system was good but I just got my JBL Creature IIs in the post and the sound quality is so much better than the creatives!

Even my dad is considering getting a mac since hes seen mine in use! hehe.

No major regrets yet. I still keep my Windows PC around but I only turn it on if I need to do something I am not familiar with on a mac yet or like roadwarrior... Newsleecher. I don't use SuperSearch (nzbs are much better IMHO) but iGrabNews just can't handle everything you throw at it. I am also looking into getting a Windows 2003 license for it so I can run the computers in the house off of a domain.

Minor quirks/ Minor regrets:

1. My first iMac (4 days old) failed on me due to a bad inverter in the unit. However the new unit is still going strong. The other night I did hear a weird noise from the inside, like something hit the chassis on the inside. I'm not thinking too much of it as the computer is still acting the same.

2. Difference between the Rev Bs are that the screen on my first iMac 20" (even though it went out) was much better and more vibrant by default. I had to do some major calibrating on the second iMac's screen and I can't get it to look the same.

3. Like a previous poster mentioned, Windows Explorer. The use of that tool has been imprinted on my brain. On my Windows computer the first thing I do is pretty Windows Key + E whenever I have to something.

4. The Show Desktop quick launch icon. I sourly miss it. F11 on expose isn't the same as sometimes all the windows come back because they don' minimize but rather move off screen.

5. Confirmation on exit on Camino. This is rather a bug but on Firefox when I close my window it warns me that I am closing multiple tabs. On Camino it doesn't. Sure I should train myself to look at the tabs but call it a habit from the Windows world. Yes I know Firefox is available on the Mac it just looks ugly.

I don't have any regrets. The hardest thing for me to get used to was the lack of a scroll wheel on the mouse. I could get one for the Mac but they are expensive, so I'll just make due with my BT mouse.

u can usea normal PC scrolly mouse...

ne ways i have yet to get a mac myslef but hopefully in about a month i will have a Mac Mini. I always go to my friends house and use his mac on occasion, and its so beautiful. i cannot wait. so far everything is so much easier with a mac. im still keepin my alienware for games, but thats about it.

Regrets, Hmmm...yeah just one, I wish I had never bought that darn iBook. All it does is sit over there in the corner collecting dust, I never use it.

Now I'm not knockin' the Macintosh platform, it's a really good computer and Apple makes a great OS but it's of no use to me and the things I do.

I tried moving to Linux also, I was drunk and wiped out my hard drive and put Mandrake (or whatever they call themselves now) on there. It didn't quite work out either.

Believe me, I wanted to switch from Windows, otherwise why did I buy an iBook I never use and wipe out a good install of Windows for an OS that offered nothing to me.

Perhaps in the future when I find these things are more atune to what I want them to do, maybe then I can try my luck once more.

    • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8, Z Fold Wide: Everything you need to know The ONLY thing I need to know is the price, which I know will be way higher than I (and most people) are willing to pay for a phone... so basically nothing here I need to know. PS: Nice job getting that Apple reference to a non-existent and unrevealed product as "competition" in there. Cheque is in the mail.
    • Well I really think the repasting helped if your higher clocks have returned, maybe the next thing to look at is if there is a problem with your case airflow? I guess this because your 3080 has returned to optimal state, but is still staying too warm, which might suggest it was thermal throttling before you repasted, of which the only logical conclusion could be outside factors.
    • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Flip 8, Z Fold Wide: Everything you need to know by Hamid Ganji Galaxy Z Fold 7 - Image via Samsung The next generation of Samsung foldables is set to be unveiled next month at the second Unpacked event of the year. Samsung’s 2026 foldables are not expected to offer significant upgrades over their predecessors, with the Korean firm instead focusing on design refinements and conventional upgrades such as faster processors and better cameras. However, Samsung is reportedly planning to unveil an all-new passport-style foldable this year to rival Apple’s first foldable iPhone, which is expected to debut this September. Here’s a roundup of everything we know about Samsung’s upcoming foldable devices ahead of their official debut. When can we expect Samsung’s new foldables? The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 series were unveiled in July, and Samsung is expected to maintain this timeframe in 2026. Based on previous reports from Korean sources, Samsung will hold its Unpacked event on July 22 in London, UK, to pull back the curtain on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series. The devices are also expected to hit the shelves a few weeks after launch. However, Samsung has yet to announce an official date. A new naming scheme? One of the most interesting changes we might see this year is a new naming scheme for Samsung’s latest foldables. SamMobile reported that since Samsung is expected to unveil three foldables this year, it has adopted a new naming strategy to simplify product identification for customers. Accordingly, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 will reportedly be called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and will serve as the direct successor to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. The “Ultra” suffix suggests the phone could feature higher-end specifications, such as additional rear camera modules. Samsung’s new passport-style foldable is expected to carry the Galaxy Z Fold 8 name without any suffix. This model is reportedly equipped with two rear cameras. No major changes are expected for the Flip model. Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 anticipated specs Rumors over the past few months suggest Samsung is preparing several upgrades for its upcoming foldables, although the devices may continue to rely on larger batteries and faster charging speeds rather than dramatic design changes. The primary focus this year is expected to be the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and its wide-screen design. Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra official CAD renders - Image via AndroidHeadlines Here are the anticipated specifications for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra based on previous leaks: 6.5-inch outer display and 8-inch inner display, 120Hz refresh rate, and 2,600 nits peak brightness Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage 4.1mm thickness when unfolded and a weight of 210g 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide camera, 10MP or 12MP telephoto camera, 10MP cover camera, and 10MP selfie camera 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired charging Android 17 and One UI 9 As for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the device is not expected to be a major departure from its predecessor, although it could become slightly slimmer. Expected specifications include: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or Exynos 2600 processor 12GB of RAM with 256GB and 512GB storage options 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner dispaly and 4.1-inch Super AMOLED outer dispaly 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide camera, and 10MP selfie camera 4,300mAh battery with 25W wired charging Android 17 and One UI 9 Samsung’s foldables are also expected to launch with Gemini Intelligence, Google’s AI suite for automating tasks in Android ecosystem. Moreover, given current memory and component costs, some Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 variants could see a price hike. Galaxy Z Fold 8 adopts a wide-screen design The centerpiece of the upcoming Unpacked event could be the Galaxy Z Fold 8, previously rumored as the Galaxy Z Fold Wide. This model adopts a passport-style form factor and is expected to compete directly with Apple’s iPhone Fold. Galaxy Z Fold 8 official CAD renders - Image via AndroidHeadlines Here’s what to expect: 7.6-inch primary OLED display and 5.4-inch cover display, 120Hz refresh rate, 2,600 nits peak brightness, and 4:3 aspect ratio Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, 12GB or 16GB of RAM, and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB storage options 4,800mAh battery with 45W wired charging 50MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide camera, and 10MP selfie camera Android 17 and One UI 9 The three new foldable phones are unlikely to be the only devices unveiled at Samsung’s Unpacked event. The company is also expected to introduce the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and the Galaxy Watch 9 series.
