Absolutely beautiful vehicle, inside and out.  Too bad dealerships are charging upwards of a $20k premium on the sticker price.  What I love even more is the engine in this beast.  While Mercede's AMG has to use superchargers to get lots of power from their engines, BMW's M can get 100hp/L with normal aspiration.

If price was no option, I'd still choose the current M3 based on engine sound :p  I will miss the M3 when BMW stops making them in the next year or two :/

Mercedes Benz are capable of producing similar engines.. who do you think makes the 555BHP N/A engine in the Pagani Zonda - thats right, AMG!

Mercedes use superchargers and turbo's because they prefer their cars to have serious torque and low end grunt.. NA is consistent through the rev range to give you an even spread of power, but with forced induction you can shift the power around nicely.. Mercs are designed to be cruisers so they can balance the power accordingly.

Plus, the engine notes from Mercedes are equally impressive to those from BMW.. have you ever heard the noise of a Mercedes McLaren SLR or the Mercedes SL55 AMG?! They are both absolutely stunning!

I'm not feeling the look of the new 5 series at all.

BMW toned down the 7-series some (check out pics of the new 750), so why couldn't they tone down the 5 a bit before they M-ified it?

This'll hopefully make the last gen one less expensive, so I can hope to aspire to owning one someday...

1) BMW made a McLaren engine. Sorry fanboy.

2) BMW still wins in the hp/L on natural aspiration

* Pagani Zonda: 6L V12 - 555hp, 92.5hp/L

* BMW M3: 3.2L I6 - 333hp, 104.1hp/L

Sorry fanboy.

If you want to talk about Mercedes, I'm sure there are forums for you and if it's really that important, you can PM me. Until then, stay on topic. 2006 BMW M5, if you need to be reminded.

Looks nice...but over 500HP?? Gesh!! How much does this cost, more than 100k?

I prefer the 3 series... the M3 is a sweet car.

I believe the US MSRP will be around $90k (last time I looked at least), but right now dealerships are putting on a huge premium, usually over $20k :x

Looks like you're being the fanboy there. Plus you got the BMW sig, lol.

Anyway, this car is a beast (only inside) but I'd prefer the Mercedes Benz CLK DTM AMG anyday. Plus, it's 582hp :p

P.S. I'm a Merc fanboy :D and any flaming towards me will result in pwnage :ninja:

No offence, but kiss my ass pal. Lets just put you right on a few things.

Firstly, i've been here so much longer than you.. I dont need to be lectured on staying on topic, etc so put a sock in it.

Secondly.. how the hell am I a fanboy! I just posted about the BMW's I liked on the 2nd page! I wasn't comparing say the BMW straight 6 engine against the AMG V12 unit.. I was merely pointing out that Mercedes/AMG were capable of producing nice, powerful NA units!

Get your act together and grow up. I thought I was having a good, general car discussion on a forum.. I wasn't aware that immediately made me a fanboy, and I wasn't aware that a discussion immediately became an argument?! Idiot.

No offence, but kiss my ass pal. Lets just put you right on a few things.

Wow. Reported.

And your post count is bigger too... You're still in a BMW topic talking about Mercedes.

You quoted my comment, in a BMW thread, about MB AMG engines using turbos and SC's. Says "fanboy" to me. Maybe I need to turn that setting down some, but it feels like a Windows guy walking into an Apple thread or an ATI guy rambling about the new Nvidia stuff.

Uh... ok.

Sheesh report me.. i'm not too worried. Its hardly like i'm a regular trouble causer.

I still don't understand how a general discussion about engines makes me a fanboy.. I don't remeber saying that I felt the Merc engines were better than the BMW ones? Even if I had, I didn't think expressing an opinion would make me a fanboy.. if i'd totally panned BMW without any explanation or reasoning then yeah, i'd expect fanboy calls!

Its horses for courses.. the BMW straight 6 engine note is pure bliss, and i'd love to own an M3 or more specifically an M3 CSL! But the forced induction Merc engines certainly do have their appeal.. having watched an SLR go round a track (Bruntingthorpe here in the UK in fact, when I was taking part in a magazine feature for Performance VW Magazine) the noise was phenominal from it. Performance wasn't bad either :)

No, he's not a "fanboy" - he's just stating his comparison on Mercedes AMG engines vs. BMW M Power engines.

Nothing wrong with that, seems like he rattled your "fanboy" cage.

Radish?

holy crap look at all that carbon fibre! that thing is practicly a race car. what sthe price tag on it? its prolly a lot higher then the M5

oh, and BMW made the McLaren F1 engine. which, as i recal, still holds the title for fastest street legal car. (accelerates faster then the concord. i allways love that tid bit)

2) BMW still wins in the hp/L on natural aspiration

sorry, but to date, i have never seen one relevant peice of information regarding how HP/L increases a cars performance, this stat is completely irrelevant as it does not enhance a cars performance. It seems only ppl on the web use this stat to add one more stat of useless figures to their cars numbers. Im not dissing the M3, its one of my favourite cars, my cousin drives one and i've taken it for a ride and the SMG transmission is amazing... but plz enlighten me, why is HP/L going to make 1 car any faster than the next car? for example, the Corvette (2001 and not the z06) has 20 hp/l less and has an engine almost twice as big as the M3 and similiar HP, yet it has a top speed of 30km more than the M3, a faster 0-60 time, a faster 1/4 and even has better fuel efficiency than the M3.

    • Frankly, I blame whoever is writing such articles. "A big improvement/update and/or new feature is now available to everyone! Also, use some unofficial tweak tool to enable it because it actually isn't available to you yet and might not in fact even be entirely ready or whatever, hence why it is perhaps not enabled for you*. But it's great and you should enable it!" I mean there's nothing wrong with sharing info about some feature you might need to enable via unofficial means, of course. It's just that these articles tend to essentially end up being two news pieces in one, and one of them tends to be a bit misleading. (*Yes, yes, the "it's a controlled rollout!" thing. Not a fan of that one either. The argument, not the actual rollout.)
    • Thank you. Will do. I read in the release notes that editor config might be at play here.
    • Actually, I think even Microsoft doesn't know how to control it
    • OpenAI is making Codex more useful in Chrome and the cloud by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI's Codex now has more than 5 million users, up nearly 4x from earlier this year. To further accelerate Codex's growth among developers, OpenAI today announced that it has agreed to acquire Ona, a company that builds secure cloud execution and orchestration technology for developers. Ona will enable developers to run Codex with persistent and controlled cloud infrastructure for long-running agentic workflows. Right now, most Codex execution happens locally on developers' laptops and PCs, and the agents work continuously for hours. Through Ona, OpenAI aims to make Codex agents keep working for days without being tied to a user’s local machine or an active session. This will be an important capability for enterprises that want to deploy AI agents in production while maintaining control over infrastructure, data, security boundaries, credential scope, logging, and review workflows. Like any acquisition, the deal is still subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Until the deal closes, OpenAI and Ona will continue to operate as separate companies. After closing, Ona’s team will join the Codex team to improve developer workflows. Alongside the Ona acquisition announcement, OpenAI today introduced a few Codex updates. Developers can now save Codex rate limit resets and use them later instead of losing them when they are not needed immediately. OpenAI is also adding a referral option where users can invite a friend to Codex and get a saved rate limit reset. OpenAI today also announced a developer mode for browser use in Chrome and the Codex in-app browser. With this mode, Codex can use the Chrome DevTools Protocol to debug web apps, inspect pages, and work more directly with browser-based development workflows. Developers can use this when they want Codex to profile JavaScript, inspect console output and network traffic, examine web page states including the DOM and applied styles, and more.
