Need Driver: Altec Lansing AVS500 speakers

Recommended Posts

Ok, I've recently formatted my PC and now my speakers won't work. It doesn't even recognise them. After doing some searching, I think it's because I need to install a driver for them but the Altec Lansing site could possibly be the most un useful site I've ever seen...

I downloaded a driver from DriverGuide.com but it didn't appear to do anything, so I was wondering if anyone could help me out please? Am I right that I need a driver and if so, can someone point me towards a working one?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Like keratosis said, speakers don't require drivers to operate. The sound card is responsible for sending the signal out and the speakers just make it audible.

Download the newest driver for your sound card. Also check to make sure the speaker plug didn't fall out of the jack on the back of your sound card (and that its in the correct one).

I checked and it is actually the sound card that isn't detecting. Problem is, I don't know what kind of sound card it is... Does this mean I'll need to buy a new sound card?

I'm still trying to figure out why it's not detecting the sound card.It was working fine until I installed a 9800 Pro graphics card and formatted the other day. Could I of maybe installed it wrong?

No, Windows doesn't have all the drivers for hardware integrated so if Windows doesn't know what it is, based on its drivers, it won't be detected.

Thanks, I have an Intel MSI 651M-L (MS-7005) motherboard. I'll try downloading from their site.

EDIT: Just went to the intel site and they don't have the driver there. Any other ideas?

Just remember use at your own risk. :argh: :pc:

Alrite, after much downloading, swearing, deleting, then more swearing, I finally got it to work. :woot: Apparently it was the Realtek AC97 Audio Driver that I needed...

Thanks everyone (especially keratosis) for your help. You saved me a lot of time, money and Panadol. :D
