Ultraviolet
I've been thinking about getting a mac mini after using my iBook and frankly loving it. I have some mac mini questions though. If i got a mini i'd like to get the faster one out of the two and get more ram and the wireless bluetooth module. All of this comes to a price (forget now about ?500) that seems really high compared to the starting slow mac price. Is there a way to get it cheaper, either through resellers or somthing? Also apart from the hdd space is there any real benifit of the faster one over the slower one? As i work for a shop that works on computers i think that i could actually add ram myself under the shops insurance so if i muck it up they would replace the mac (as would any customer getting a ram upgrade that goes pairshaped) So that would save some money at least. Are Apple going to update the mini or not as i've read and heard different things and it doesn't seem like it will happen anytime soon but i know what apple are like and i really dont want to buy one and then they get upgraded. GothTeddy
If you load up the 1.25 mini to be the same spec as the 1.42, it comes to ?28 difference. The question is, is that 170MHz worth ?28? I'd say, ye:):) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/319103-mac-mini-general-questions/#findComment-585907463 Share on other sites
pixlnet
Wait until the WWDC before you buy something. I wouldn't buy an upgraded mini though because they hose you on upgrades. If I were you I'd rather get like an iMac or refurbished G5. mercuryx013
Anyone know if the Apple store would carry the Mini with 512 RAM? Or are they all typically the standard configuration? I would rather pick a Mini up from the store insetad of having to order it. Huy
Standard config but maybe it would be easy for them to install RAM as a BTO. I still think that they will order them in as built to order and then sell it to you. If they have a repair or servicing centre at the same location, RAM installation would be easy. I would have to say that they only stock the standard/default config and anything extra will take 7-10 days. Pilsbury
Depends on where you buy it from, but, yes it should. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/319103-mac-mini-general-questions/#findComment-585908944 Share on other sites
smurfiness
Any one know if I bought one today  , would it come with the new Tiger OS X? 585908782 If it doesn't, then most places will give you a Mac OSX Up-To-Date form to fill out. Just pay shipping and Apple will send you Tiger for just the cost of shipping (that's what I got; bought a mini last week). smurfiness
you could save much more on ebay :p 585924344 That may be, but I'd be leery about buying any sort of computer hardware from someone I've never even met. *shrugs* But that's just me.
