Does this mean anything?

if you don't feel like reading it all, just answer the question in red :) but the story sort of sets up the scope of what was happening...

Last week some time lateish at night, driving home, left lane, front was a ford lazer, middle holden commodore, last was me in an audi 80, no other cars sighted on the road while this took place. 70kmph zone. lazer travelling at 60kmph... commodore said, "fair dinkum, had enough mate" pulled out into right lane, went for the over take. I did the same. lazer try-hard accelerates as commodore trys to overtake, which is illegal in the lazer's case. commodore obviously ****ed off, goes for 100kmph, gets a nice lead, drops back to 70kmph. I'm like holy ****, since i only realised as i was about to pass the lazer myself that the commodore gunned it that much, hit the damned brakes, dropped back to 70kmph myself. I could overtake, but that would mean nearly kissing the ass of the commodore and speeding against a rather hot headed try hard lazer. And since i had already unwittingly done 90 in a 70 zone that was enough fun.

lazer gets scared, matches our speeds. commodore could merge back into the left lane, but doesnt, neither do i, but i need to up ahead for a turn just after the train tracks. Commodore obviously was going my way, dropped back into the left lane, i dropped back into the left lane, pulled up to the railway lines since there was a train coming and the gates were down, all in the left lane, commodore, lazer, me. Lazer tard revs engine hard. I think the driver is a tard. waiting... lazer does a uturn at the railway lines, it went to double back a bit and go under the rail way lines, so woopee, goodbye good riddance. i roll up behind the commodore and wait.

now this is the bit that i don't understand, maybe it means nothing, but it seemed too intentional... im fairly sure the commodore actually saw me behind him, and saw me try to overtake the lazer. I saw the driver glance in the rear view mirror. And then, they put the reversing lights on, and im like, wtf?!?! don't do that! then they went off... then they came on again... then they went off... was that a signal for something? around these parts, i dunno anywhere else, but 2 flashes of the headlights from oncomming traffic means police speed camera up ahead. I've never seen the reversing lights. It may be completely meaningless, but it seemed delibarate considering the circumstances.

oh, and i never make a habit of speeding, that was a one off, fully unintentional. We all make mistakes but :pinch:

edit: clarification

I don't quite follow everything that happened. Obviously you came to a stop for some reason.

Perhaps he wanted you to back up and give him some room to turn around (particularly if there was a train preventing him from going forward).

If I went in and out of reverse twice then that would be what I meant.

well yes there was a train, i sort of said we stopped at the traintracks, but didn't say that there was actually a train... edited for clarification. i don't see why he would have wanted to back up... he did end up going the same way as me for ages... plus if he doubled back like the lazer did, he probably would have lost time doing that...

Maybe, he and the lazer both knew another way across the tracks (tunnel, bridge) that would not be impeded by a train. Some freight trains take 20 minutes to pass.

Maybe he was ticked off at the lazer and was tempted to chase him down.

I'm sure he wanted to back up, probably to find another way around the tracks.

A lot fo gearheads (myself included) would rather drive for an extra 20 minutes (and waste gas) than sit and wait for a long train to pass.

As I suggested before, he probably thought about looking for a bridge / tunnel and then when you didn't move, he decided to wait it out.

Yeah, I agree. He probably wanted to get out and find an alternate route.

Or maybe he was just checking his transmission?

Haha, wow.. I guess we got it easy in the States. We can speed. I'm easily cruisin at 95mph (152 kph) in a 65mph (100 kph) highway.. swirving inbetween cars and stuff. I have control of the car, and I know I'm a competant driver. One law me and my father dont obey is speed.

In a 40mph zone (70 kph), when I'm overtaking, I easily take my car up to 80 mph (130 kph).

All the (k/m)ph's are killing me.. lol

How long were the lights on and off?

Maybe the guy just put his car in park while the train was going by. When you move the shifter from drive to park, you move through reverse. And for that second or less that you're in reverse, your back-up lights illuminate. Just a thought.

That is assuming an automatic transmission. Not always a good assumption outside of North America.

well if it was an auto, why would he have gone from drive to park twice? And it was definitely on for a second, which is a bit long to be shuffling from drive to park. And if it was manual, it would have been delibarately done twice...

i think this is really going to be put in the too hard basket, i wouldn't worry about trying to expound any more theories into this... some of my friends around here seem to think a few different things, ie. he wanted to race, he wanted to reverse, he was saying good job (wtf?) but yeah... i was only curious :p

umm, i don't think i was delibarately. maybe he wanted to do what the tarded laser did and tried to turn around, but had second thoughts. or maybe he knew that you're a nerd and wanted to kick your ass.... nah i'm only kiddin with ya...

but still...i don't think it was a signal...unless it was telling you "2 reversi's mean laser's are tards" but totally doubt it.

i'm guessing that was at strathpine?...well, yeah i dunno.

I know here in the UK some stupid Drivers (Racers and Road rage Drivers) will pop the car into reverse as another way of saying "Back off Buddy" in other words, get off his ass and some people say. :)

But I also know that when I was with my mate who was Driving a old woman went into reverse and went straight into the front of his new Audi A3, she didnt look in her mirror, caused ?1,200 worth of damage only going about 15mph.:pinch:: So watch out, some weird drivers are about in the UK.

im seeing a link, since i was driving an audi, and your mate was driving an audi, perhaps people just like reversing into audi's?:

No matter where you go in the world, you're gonna meet nutters on the road...

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.

    • Not sure what country you’re in but in many countries you can absolutely jail the sellers behind businesses… in fact I’d say in most countries you can do that
