I played the game long time a go, but I think there was a "full screen" option in the preference.

Just uncheck it.

yeah i would think that too...

i never bothered to play in windowed mode, so i dont know if that was there or not.

I took a look at the UT2004.ini file...therre is a line...i want to see the SWAT4.ini first before i give any directions...

About one third of the way down...

Change True to False on the green, boldened-enlarged line and you are as good as gold.

If you wish to change the size of the window modify the two red lines. The first one (WindowedViewportX=) governs the width, the second one (WindowedViewportY=) governs the height.

Whats really nice about the UT/UT2004 engine in respect to this is that you can set the resolution to whatever you want, assuming your drivers have it installed.

So for example, my brother's laptop is widescreen 1680x1050. It comes in his Radeon drivers (Radeon 9700 Mobility), but UT doesnt have it in the game options menu. But, by changing the FullscreenViewport to 1680x1050 manually it becomes widescreen as the game supports it.

another thing you might want to change is the MinDesiredFrameRate= field.

Right now its set to 35. The higher you set it, the more the game will try to reach the minimum.

Think about it in the real world. If you are at a job and you have to write a report and your boss says he wants a 10 page report and your co-workers tells you he prefers 20. Well you will definitely try to get 10 pages, but you probably wont do 20 pages since the boss says 10 pages.

If the boss says 20 pages to you, then of course you will get 20 pages...

i doubt it makes the game work any harder to speed up the frame rate, other than lowering graphic settings

but anyway, nothing against the main poster, but why run the game in windowed mode? just curious

No offence but crap example!

The game is always working its hardest to get as many fps as possible , increasing the min desired fps just means it will automatically adjust certain gfx settings on the fly to try to reach that frame rate.

cause i can alt-tab without lagging ... ?

Err .. the FALSE did not work. Alt-Enter didn't work too :( Is it cause of

WindowedViewportX=1024
WindowedViewportY=768
FullscreenViewportX=800
FullscreenViewportY=600
MenuViewportX=640
MenuViewportY=480

?

So now leave it or ? .... Doubt will make a difference right?

make the SWAT4.ini file read only.

Thats what my brother did as far as cheats go.

Interestingly, after the game quits with cheats, the game overwrites the INI file removing the cheat line. My brother made the file read only and now everytime he quits it says that it cant read the INI file.

So just set it to false and make the file read only.

See what that does...

edit: i know exactly your qualm with the game. Something really bad with the UT engine is that alt-tabbing is a mucho resource hog for some odd reason. You really dont see problems when alt-tabbing out of other games like Quake 3, or Far Cry, or such.

Yeah ... Swat 4 alt-tabbing is bad .. very ..

but just now I set it as False and run the game, it's still not windowed.

well 1) did you try making it read only?

2) when you re-open the SWAT4.ini file after opening and closing the game, is the False changed back to true?

3) im almost certain that the SDLDRV variables have no effect whatsoever since you are probably using the WINDRV section, but just for kicks change the StartupFullscreen= variable to False under the [sDLDrv.SDLClient] section.
