Linux and Card Reader Support

Recommended Posts

Do you guys know if Linux now supports these 10 in 1 card readers? I want to convert one of my Windoz boxes to Linux, but I have the internal card reader attached and want to keep this functionality.

What distro supports this?

TIA

Barney

This is my own built box. I believe that the card reader is a USB Koutech. It is hooked to an internal USB PCI card and also has audio and additional USB connectors in the front.......

Not sure if this could be of any help... but whenever I connect my digital camera in Fedora Core 3, it mounts as "usbdisk".

Could the same occur when you put the cards in the reader?

Suse 9.3 supports my photo-camera and usb stick Out of the box, so there is a high change that it will work Out of the box

Hmmmm.. maybe I'll download the latest Knoppix live CD and see if they are recognized. Then I can get on to installation.......

You could do that. Or of course yu could look at the fstab in knoppix and see what it mounts these drives as - then just edit uour own fstab file.

In any case I wouldn't recommed installing Knoppix as it seems to loose some of that great hardware detection after an install. A better prospect (at the risk of sounding like a broken record) is Kanotix. Based on Knoppix, but with installation specifically designed in, so that you don't loose any hardware detection. And with full Debian Sid compatability as a guranteed feature, you won't run into snags with package updates - like you can with distros like Ubuntu, Mepis, Linspire and so on.

Thanks all for your responses and help. I will give your suggestions a try.

GJ.... I appreciate your input. You don't sound like a broken record.

I do have SuSE 9.2 Pro sitting around. The box I built has lots of more "exotic" features (for lack of a better term) like SCSI card and SCSI CD-ROM, external Sony USB DVD-RW, Internal Zip Drive, ATI 9700 Video Card with S-Video output, and the USB card reader.

It will be a challange to see what disto will pick all of this up!
