i heard the audio samples that were posted and did not like what i heard. i have heard rumors it is a fake collection that portnoy put out just before he removed the forums. we shall see... but i can get 10 rolls of toilet paper for the price of this cd if it is the same as what i heard on the samples.

There were two leaks... One was an early leak, and was NOT the real album. It instead was Elements of Persuasion by James LaBrie... I listened to it, and yeah, it sucked... :p But there was another leak, and that one rocks! And it is definitely the real one... because the lyrics match the track title's, and it's definitely DT. I can hear by the drumming that it's Mike Portnoy.

What's with the shutdown of the forums btw? And also, where did you get your sound samples, cause I couldn't find any on the DT website. They're not really a band that release sound samples before the album.

OT: isn't your signature a little big? :p

dime aint leaving, he will be there until dec 8 2005.

i guess it is a bit big, i will work on it. but let's not let that drag us off topic. i got my sound samples cuz they were posted on blabbermouth. i knew it was petrucci no doubt, but i did not like what i heard. seems like ToT owns it in every way cept the self titled track.

but still, wtf portnoy. dont be such a chump. coulda had an ad on the forum that had a countdown on it.

Yeah but why did they shut it down in the first place?

edit: nvm reading it now on blabbermouth

edit2: I don't see the problem... I've been a DT fan since IAW, and ever since then, they've always tried not to release a lot of info regarding their upcoming albums. I think it's good, it builds up anticipation for the fans. And besides, not only DT does that. Think of the gaming industry, what about Microsoft and Sony? They're not revealing everything until they think is fit. So why can't Dream Theater?

And about the forums, what if... the final version of Longhorn leaks? (Just to make an example) And a lot of people start posting topics about where to get it? And people posting links, and it would get out of hand? I know you have a lot of moderaters, but the DT forums don't have that. So I think it's only normal that they shut down the forums then :)

People call Tool progressive because they don't know any other bands that actually are progressive. And yes, Tool is wayyyyy over rated. There are plenty of other bands that blow them out of the water. Besides, I can't deal with all the bull**** Maynard does.

Ever hear Deadsoul Tribe? They are what Tool always wanted to be.

Bleh, way to miss a thread. :pinch:

I'm disappointed. The 4th track sounded like I was listening to a U2 song. Train of Thought was so much better than this stuff (and better than Six Degrees), and even that wasn't that great compared to Scenes from a Memory and prior.

Obviously, DT was influenced by a lot of different music on this album. And that's a good thing, because still, they manage to contain their own style in all the music that they make.

But I'll be honest, I thought the same thing you did when I first heard it. But trust me, give it a listen a few more times, it'll grow on you, and eventually you'll love it

I'm going to see them when they come back for the "evening with DT" shows in Europe this fall :D I'm not really into festivals, or else I could have seen em already :p

Just got the album, I've listened to it once. I still haven't formed a complete opinion on it. The tracks aren't really immediate. It's more like old DT stuff than stuff from TOT or Six Degrees.

As for the influences, I don't really care. DT likes to show where its music is coming from and that's fine by me.

My favorite track right now is These Walls (and by far) but I guess that could change.

And Octavarium (the track) is kind of old fashioned I found. More prog rock than prog metal if you ask me.

This album is fantastic. The music is so well rounded, with no one really having more of a role than anyone else. "I Walk Beside You" got my gag reflex going a bit (if I didn't know any better I would think I was listening to U2 on that song), and I've never heard Muse, the other band everyone is saying DT ripped off of, so all of the other songs made up for it. Octavarium the song is truely epic. I will have to listen to that a couple dozen more times before I can fully digest it, but it certainly didn't fail to give me goose-bumps on the first listen.

I am so happy with this release, and I feel sorry for the guys who, if you read the dt.net forums, are had different expectations and were disappointed because of 'em.

Yeah that's true. Octavarium is really an old fashioned DT style prog rock song. Which I think is really great, 'cause there weren't any songs like that on ToT. I like it the way they're starting to move back to their old music, like IAW and SFAM. And there's also lots of Awake things on this new album. It's awesome if you ask me :D

I have to agree on I Walk Beside You. It's really U2 influenced... and I'm not really a big fan of U2. However, I like the way that DT still gives it a twist, like they always managed to do. So it's still a great song for me :D I guess you have to give it a listen a few more times.

Mike Portnoy also stated once, that the album Absolution by Muse, was one of his top albums for 2004. And in the end of Panic Attack and the complete song Never Enough you can really hear that. When I first heard it, I immediately started to think about Muse. But people saying they "ripped it from Muse" are just stupid. Because then you'd also have to say that Muse "ripped stuff from classical music", which is just plain silly.

The new album just has to much variation, it's awesome. It has all the heavy songs, but also really the easy DT songs, like The Answer Lies Within. There is one thing I miss on this DT album though... It's the fast guitar and keyboard solo's. There are some solo's but not as much as you're used from DT. Where there are pieces just for solo's only, now they're too much on the background. :(

I also miss the piano sound, which I don't think was on ToT enough either... I think it's essential to prog rock music, and it's too bad that they're not using it so much anymore... :(

...and another long post by me... what can I say, I'm a fan :p

    • DriversCloud 12.1.6 by Razvan Serea With DriversCloud (formerly My-Config.com), you can explore your computer easily, safely and free. The application quickly scans your PC and identifies the hardware and software components. DriversCloud then establishes a list of the different drivers compatible with your OS and hardware. Download the drivers needed for the proper functioning of your computer. To detect your drivers, DriversCloud also displays a detailed summary of your hardware and software configuration, analyzes your BSOD, monitors in real-time your PC voltages and temperatures and lets you share your configuration online. Once the hardware components have been detected, you will be able to obtain with just a few clicks the latest drivers corresponding to the identified hardware. You can record your configuration on the site for free, and can get the corresponding URL to post the configuration to technical forums, e-mail and social networks. You can also download the detection result (the configuration) as a PDF file. To protect the user's privacy and data confidentiality, a 4-level confidentiality system was created that filters the XML marks and gives control to the user. The default level can be modified in the preferences. Using the maximum level will prevent the user from publishing his configuration and generating a corresponding PDF file. In non-connected mode, each XML configuration is stored on the server for one day (for practical reasons). However, you are given the opportunity to manually delete it. Created in 2004, and continually improved, My-Config.com has established itself on the web as a free service to PC users running Windows and Linux operating systems. The service is designed to work with the most common Internet browsers (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari). • Ocenaudio 3.19.3 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display.
