I need setup recomendations...

Recommended Posts

OK, first of all, sorry for the double post, but i think i will get more replies in this section..

Right, I'm looking to do a major upgrade on my pc soon, it'll virtually be a new pc apart form the cd/dvd drives.

Anyway, my setup so far is below, any recommendations would be welcome, and also if anyone could mention anything i've missed of their I would appreciate it..

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe S939..........?105.62..........(or DFI lanparty NF4 Sli-d <most likely [?129.00])

Corsair (TWINX1024-3200C2PT)..........?86.24..........(not sure if this is good enough)

AMD (Venice) Athlon 64bit 3500+ 939pin..........?194.70

Seagate ST3250823AS 250MB..........?89.00..........(whats the crack with raid drives???)

Hightech X800 IceQ II Turbo 256MB PCI-E..........?169.66..........(Crossfirable in the future???)

Antec Neopower 480 Watt..........?76.74..........(any cheaper that'll do comparitive job???)

Lian Li V1000 ?135.00 (approx.) (w/additional drive bezel [?12.00])

Thanks to anyone who offers help, i know hundreds of these threads appear every week, but i havent kept my knowledge up up to date on th ever changing technology of computers.

P.S. If anyone knows where i can get any of the stuff for cheaper in the UK, inlcuding postage/packaging, i would also appreciate that.

P.P.S. Could someone also recommend a half decent (not too expensive) 19" tft/lcd monitor, no more than ?300 (350 at a push)..

A Radeon X800 should be able to play all currently available games at 1024x768 with all options maxed out, and most you can probably turn on some AA/AF as well. I noticed you picked out HIS's card with the IceQ cooling solution. If you did this because you want a quieter card, then you should look into Gigabyte's Radeon X800 heatpiped version. It is completely silent (since it has no fans), and is usually much cheaper, at least here in the U.S.

As for your CrossFire question, all Radeon X800-series cards are CrossFire-ready. However, you need a CrossFire-ready motherboard, which at least right now is only the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 CrossFire Edition motherboards. ATI may let you run CrossFire on nForce4 SLI motherboards (there is no hardware problems, only a matter of ATI turning it on in their drivers) in the future, though. This would be a wise decision on their part, since there are so many nForce4 SLI motherboards out there already.
