well i really need your help here... I'm looking for a notebook and was considering buying this:

ASUS Z71V

Pentium M 735 (1.7Ghz 100x17, plan to run at 133x17 = 2.26Ghz)

512 MB PC4200 DDR2 533 RAM

80GB 5400 RPM HDD

DVD/CDRW combo drive

128MB 6600Go

15" 1680x1050 WSXGA+ Screen

WiFi, SD/MS card reader and all the other stuff

However it comes to $1421.67 (Shipping and taxes included, $1310.88 w/o Ship&tax)

can anyone find me a better deal or another computer that can compare.... maybe for a bit less money because if my dad doesnt agree on this i'll have to go for an eMachines 6811 (Athlon 64 3400+ , 9600 64MB :(, 60GB :(, 512MB PC2700 :(, DVDRW :), 15"1280x800 screen :( all the other stuff :) )

there are actually three notebooks i'm looking at buting this summer

Fujitsu N6010 Mobile Pentium 4 3.2GHz 17.0" 512MB 60GB DVD/CD-RW Combo

and then an acer ferrair 3400 (easily googlable) for the looks or an acer aspire which i found earlier but can't find again

i've been searching for a long time, and it's pretty hard to find a good, sturdy desktop replacement with a battery life over 2 hours for less than $2,000 (even though i've come across a few)

Dude I have the 1.7GHz Banias core proc in my Toshiba Satellite M30 and the chip is hella fast :woot: Kicks my bros 3.2GHz with ease, not a problem. Great chip that graphics card is also :hump: as the RAM is  So that laptop would kick ass (Y) Especially with that 1.7 @ 2.26 :uberhump:

Do you think I can make mine 2.26? :/ or is something special on the mobo needed ?

BTW does anyonw know if it would be possible to pop in a Yonah chip on the Sonoma platform like in 2 years or so??

No, "Yonah" requires a brand-new socket with a brand-new chipset supporting its 667MHz FSB speed. Also, $1400 seems like a bit much. Right now, you can configure a HP notebook with a AMD Turion 64 ML-34, 1GB DDR400, 80GB 4200RPM HDD, and a 15" screen for under $1200. Of course, it has crappy ATI Radeon Xpress 200M integrated graphics, but still. You should try to look for notebooks based around AMD's Turion 64 chip, as the cost would be much lower and the performance would be higher. A Turion 64 ML-37 will be faster than any Pentium M except for the 770 (the highest-end model). And DDR400 memory costs much less than DDR2-533 (which new Pentium M models use).

well it was less until on MSN you told me you needed to have the better screen. then it was 200 more instead of 80. I don't control state taxes. I guess here in Arizona i'm off the hook since dell doesn't have an entity here...

64MB of video memory on the Toshiba is really going to hurt your gaming experience. The second link doesn't seem to work for me. You really should have boughten that Dell earlier. The GeForce Go 6800 would have been an awesome card, third from the best in fact (behind the GeForce Go 6800 Ultra and ATI's new Mobility Radeon X800 XT).
