Blaze, I?m thinking to upgrade my old 333MHz P2 from WMe to W2k since I have

W2k-drivers for the motherboard but no WXP-drivers but also because W2k is less

heavy on processor and memmory compared to WXP.

Q1: How old version of W2k does Your latest AutoPatcher_2K_June2005_ENU_Full

support? (I?ve got an old disk from Year 2000 somewhere...)

Q2: Do I need to use AutoPatcher2k_Oct04_Full first OR is

AutoPatcher_2K_June2005_ENU_Full sufficient?

Greetings in admiration of Your enormous efforts! - I read all the posts...

PS. Good luck w. DI6 (Drive Image 2002 v6) for Your future work! I use DI

TOGETHER with PM (Partition Magic) since >6 years. With the 3 latest backups

(max. compressed) in the root of my "DATA" partition I managed to work safely

ever since. I use minimum 4, better 5 partitions:

SWAP (for pagefile.sys, ntldr, boot.ini (BOOT MAGIC))

W2K (for the SYSTEM)

TEMP (for Temp files)

STORAGE (for DATA files like MAIL, DOC, DOWNLOADS & TOOLS)

RECOVER (for compressed DI6 pqi-files)

DS.

satcat:

1. Yes, Win2k will be better (and run smoother) than WinMe.

2. Windows 2000 drivers should work on Windows XP since they share the same kernel. Exceptions are rare.

3. If your Win2k is old it will probably come with no service packs pre-applied. That means you'll have to download SP4 from Microsoft before you run (the latest, June2005) AutoPatcher 2000.

Thank You Raptor!

I recently helped a friend w. his WXPP install using Autopatcher - such a nice install: Partition disk, install WXPP, Autopatcher, AdAware, Spybot,

SpywareBlaster, X-Setup Pro, AV, FireWall, Router and THEN connect updating AV+FW protections!

Simply genious - to be updated and wellprotected BEFORE You enter the www!!!

WHEN will Big Gate recognize You and Your crew??

^ Yes, it is possible, You just combine the \modules folders. Be carefull of duplicates though. Since there are now several falours of AutoPatcher, we were thinking of bringing back CD sales and introduce a DVD (most likely miniDVD) with all releases combined :)

^^ive tried to get the 2K and XP release as compatable as possible, however theres currently two problems. apart from that they should be perfectly compatable.

ill see about fixing these problems in future releases:

1) the folder containing updated windows component modules in the 2K release is called 'UpdatedComponents', and in XP is called 'Components'.

You need to drag and drop the contents of one folder and drop them into the other.

that will then overwrite duplicates.

2) The other problem is with the setup file for sun java. again two different names for the same item.

when you combine 2K and XP youll be left with the one module, but two setup files.

you need to use the module editor (C:\Program Files\AutoPatcher\Tools) to open the sunjava amc file (C:\Program Files\Autopatcher\Modules\addons).

look at the installation instructions on the last tab. look at which setup file it uses.

open the modules folder (C:\Program Files\AutoPatcher\Modules\Addons\sunjava.amc_files), and delete the other one.

^^

3) personally im slightly concerned about the uninstall autopatcher option thats being discussed.

with the 2K release you need to run it at least twice to get everything installed.

if a user missed that and removed autopatcher, they wouldnt be fully patched.

also, someone might absent mindedly tick the box, loose autopatcher and have to redownload it all over again.

personnally i think its easy enough to just delete the folder manually.

you could even make a quick batch file to remove the folder & reg keys if you wanted.

adding hibernate/standby options defies the point in having a reboot option.

the whole idea is that you need to reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.

if you used hibernate/standby you wouldnt be doing it, and wouldnt have a fully patched, stable system

Hmmmm I am glad I read this post. I did not know about 2 reboots.... could you say a bit more on that? Do you mean to reboot once then a 2nd time after the slipstream?

Could you point me to the instructions if it is too lengthy to detail here?

^^ after selecting things to install, which should include IE6SP1, and doing a reboot, some extra updates will be available for selection. you can select these for installation and afterwards do another reboot.

A. I did not get that option available for selection...

B. I also noticed 3 Issues:

1. I cannot go to MS update site, the execution seems suspended with windows explorer and yet firefox has no problem getting there. I try to copy the address firewire has landed in and paste it in IE, and it blanks out the command line totally.

2. My Ati aiw TV suddenly stopped working and a requester says "ATIMMC.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. this happens agin and again ehrn I try playing the TV.

So I decided to try and uninstall the drivers and get the newest ones and install those.

3. when I try to go to control pannel "add/Remove software, the window opens and no listings appear, no matter how long I wait.

So now I cannot get updates from MS nor uninstall any Programs

I went back and try to reinstall. I noticed that there was a checkmark next to each item to install so I checked them all and now am in mid installing. I did get a requester saying that my Installation software was either in safe mode or placed incorrectly and to contact my supporter.

I will say more when it finnishes installing although it seems stuck now at 18% for quite some time.

Update: I had to abort the stuck installation.

2nd Update :)

I realized that the patcher has to be done in 2 stps.

So I did th critical updates first

rebooted

then did the rest

rebooted

ALL IS WORKING FINE NOW :)UPDATE

One requester comes up and says:

Warning: DMA Not Enabled

Personal Video Recorder and TV-on-Demand

Performance will be degraded on this system as DMA for

the hard disk is not enabled.

Please check the System Settings in the Windows Control

Panel for the following Devices:

Maxtor 6Y160P0

So what can I do with this? I checked in Conrol Pannel but could not find what to change.

System Properties - Hardware - Device Manager - IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers - [select the IDE Channel the drive is on, probably Primary] - Advanced Settings - DMA if available.

That's if you haven't installed Intel PAT, which removes these options from the system properties.

    • You are clueless. The updates are done in the background so the next time you open Edge the updates are applied automatically. There is no need to close all your tabs. Just keep browsing like you normally do. Clearly you don't use Edge and are just one of those haters that complain for the sake of complaining.
    • I don't get this David. Can you explain it please.
