you have to pay for this crap? (also groovyd you copied your first site from here? http://www.cartoonsmart.com/interface_design.html) seriously dont pay for these tutorials you can get better tuts that come with flash and if you have any design sense you can make a site with that knowledge. If you want to spend money buy a book from macromedia ("traning from the source" series is good) and use that to learn the basic stuff but i learned it without any tutorials except the ones that come with flash. (and i can assure you you wont have all a the flash knowledge from the above tuts, there is far more to know about the use of flash than you can learn in a few hours.)

Well, that is quite the question....

And in fact, I actually the FIRST day of learning Flash, went onto a forum and posted just like you. Wow that was 7 years ago too.

Incredible........ anyway

I will pass on the same knowledge that was provided to me, I didn't listen at first but of course, when I did, my ability to handle flash's complex learning curve became so much easier.

Books, books, books.

Tutorials don't work. They just plan dont; work. They don't stick to your brain, you don't get the right language explained to ya. It's just not the same as reading from a good old text book.

I STRONGLY recommend books from Sams Publishing (anything "Learn in 24 hours" is a good crash course)

The thing about the books, is that they put the knowledge and understanding into a light where you can understand it to a full degree. This is very important to making all this stuff stick in your brain. Trust me. I've had to learn programming and all the craziness that came with Actionscript as an artist by nature. Wasn't easy.

Take it from me, this will make your life alot easier. Plus the books dive into some wicked tutorials that actually make sense and you can apply immediately. Once you've got EVEN one of those books in your head, go nail off some tutorials on the internet. I find tutorials on the internet are just a mixed pot of different styles of doing things. I think a book gives you the ability to make up your own logical style of doings things by learning it the right way in the first place.

Anyway, good luck to you.

another thing to think about:

while building in flash is good and all, make sure you think about WHAT you want your site to do. thats the biggest killer of flash. i was trying to learn it, however i didnt have a good game plan of what i wanted any of my sites to look like. so now, for inspiration, i check out boxedart.com and look at their flash templates. that will give you a decent idea of what you can do.

    • I was a little disappointed with mine compared to the Lemokey P1, for example. Seemed cheap compared to all aluminum. But I liked the look to go with my Fractal North. Ended up getting a Keychron Q1 HE and a Lemokey L5 HE. Love the L5, which replaced my P1. The definitely aren't light boards.
