why Unix users hate Linux?

In my case I don't like Linux because of how the Linux kernel is designed and the kind of people Linux attracts (yeah, all those 14 year old 1337 h4x0rZ who claim to be something they're not).

ok, ut which is the advantage? why the kernel of linux that u said is different are not good? I'm a newbie and linux user and I love it, the stability is amazing and I saw some screeshots of Unix, the pure unix itself and scare me because looks very diffivcult to manage, even in linux u have to know at least some commands

A lot of the *BSD users bashing Linux are just bitter that almost nobody cares for their old-and-proven OS anymore (same for Theo, who talks bad about Linux's design without ever having looked at the sourcecode). Problem with most of those guys is that they know next to nothing about the Linux kernel... It's somewhat similar to UNIX but follows completely different design and development paradigms (same with the 2.4/ 2.6 bull many people spread). But hey, that's old - a while ago, I found a website from some self proclaimed BSD-crack bashing Linux, based on Linux features from before Linux 2.0 - the thing is, Linux has beaten BSD in pretty much everything mentioned on the website these days. :-)

I've never seen a valid complaint regarding the Linux development model, still, the discussion continues...

I saw in couple of news computer sites that OpenBSD users hate Linux, I don't understand why or what is the advantage of Unix over Linux, if Linux is a clone of Unix and is a lot more easy than the Unix itself, any unix user in here can answer to this question, thanks

Many reasons:

1) Many dislike the GPL

2) Some dislike the architecture of the Linux OS

3) Some dislike Linux's stability and reliability problems

4) Some are frustrated with the various forks, schizms, and distribution craziness in the linux world.

Might be others, who knows.

Honestly, I use both FreeBSd and Linux. I use Linux for my desktops because of its better hardware support, and better overall 3rd party support e.g. Flashplayer.

I personally just prefer having a split world and userland like FreeBSD does because it helps their stability, my main example; there is no need to check its ports again 150 different versions of GCC, they just have to support the one in world tools. I don't want to start a portage vs. ports argument here, but portage is just WAY too unstable to use in a production environment, and since I believe that source is what you should use in a server due to choice and performance, Linux really leaves you no other option. Sure, you can build anything from source on any distro, but try keeping 20 different packages built from source upgraded without a tool like cvsup or emerge, let alone an entire system. FreeBSD's ports really win in that category. Let's not even get into filesystem heirarchy, or lack thereof.

I was unaware that a gigantic internet company like Yahoo! was noone? http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?site=www.yahoo.com

Don't take this as a troll, because I love Linux, but I found this website a while ago: http://www.linuxisforbitches.com/

That expresses some of the problems BSD users have with Linux. Check out their forums if you're looking to argue any of those points. I don't know if the mods or original poster want it carried on here.

Hey, that's really cool - http://www.linuxisforbitches.com/ is the best anti-BSD advertisement I've ever seen, I think I'll never take *BSD users serious again! Poor little creatures: "my OS might be old, slow and uncool, but hey - I have a huge dick!" Come on, I thought this was about operating systems... ;-)

umm... shouldnt keeping a system up, running and stable be 3 jobs?

Ok enough.

To continue this utterly humorous thread, every *nix admin that respects themselves knows Solaris does a better job on mission critical servers than BSD ever will!

Worth their salt AND pepper... Now, I'd go out on a limb and say that Linux is more secure than Windows 2000 OOTB, but not 2003. And after doing the additional lockdowns (needed with Linux too... you real *nix people know what I'm talking about), it's a tough argument...

    • President Trump says TikTok deadline will ‘probably' be extended again by Sagar Naresh Bhavsar It appears that the Trump administration is quite keen on allowing TikTok to continue its operations in the U.S. The platform was briefly banned in the U.S. on January 19 for 14 hours. But as soon as Donald Trump assumed office as the 47th President of the U.S. on January 20, he signed an executive order to give a reprieve of 75 days to TikTok. During this period, TikTok had to separate itself from its Chinese parent, ByteDance, and find a U.S. buyer. Several U.S. companies, including Microsoft, Oracle, Perplexity AI, and Amazon, reportedly showed interest in buying the U.S. assets of TikTok. While President Trump hinted that a deal could soon come through, nothing materialised. As the 75-day deadline was about to expire on April 5, Trump signed another executive order on April 4, granting TikTok another 75-day extension. Now, with the second deadline nearing its end on June 19, it seems like President Trump is still unwilling to let TikTok shut down in the U.S. According to Reuters, U.S. President Trump has said that he would likely offer another extension to ByteDance-owned short video platform TikTok to divest its U.S. assets. Answering reporters on Air Force One on Tuesday, when asked about extending the deadline, Trump said; If announced, it will be for the third time, TikTok gets a lifeline to continue its operations in the U.S. While there is no clarity on how many extensions the company might receive, it's evident that President Trump wants TikTok to find a solution for its U.S. assets. Interestingly, he wanted to ban TikTok during his first Presidential term. However, things changed as Meta banned him from its platforms after the January 6, 2024, Capitol Attack. Trump then joined TikTok and appreciated the platform to help him reach a young audience. For now, TikTok's fate still hangs in the balance. Let us know in the comments below what you think about this development. Image by rafapress via Depositphotos
