Problem with Serv-U 4.1

Question

Earlier today, I gave my FTP server (Serv-U 4.1) a test drive for the first time in a while and unfortunately, I am stuck! I have an ADSL modem, but it is connected to a router (D-Link DI-704UP) so I could have both computers in the household hooked up to the Internet. As a result, the FTP server thinks the IP address is some 192.168.x.x while the IP address detected by any site accessed on Mozilla Firefox is something else. So I typed in the computer's IP in the domain field and the Firefox IP under PASV. When I tried doing a user login, I always got an error saying the login is incorrect when it should be. Then I tried anonymous mode and it appears to simply hang. The FTP Server says it's logged in, but nothing comes up in Firefox nor SmartFTP.

I was wondering if there is a way in order to fix this problem. If there is, please let me know because there are some people I know of who need to access a large amount of files off my computer pretty soon.

Kind of weird that it worked fine without a router and now with the router, it doesn't?

Thanks in advance.

You're going to have to forward it through the router for it to be accessible to the outside world. This depends on the brand of router, but most of the time enter something like http://192.168.0.1 in firefox and then log into the router...there should be a port forwarding tab which will let you forward the FTP request through the router to your computer.

For example, if you are running the FTP server on port 21 (the default i think right?) then you will have to tell the router to send any requests for port 21 to whatever the specific IP of the ftp server is (should be a 192.168.0.XX) ...Once that is set then you access the ftp server from the outside world by using that IP address you saw when you did the search in Firefox...that is the IP address of your router... hope this helps. let me know if it doesn't. ;)

I already did the changes on the router settings at 192.168.0.1 (the FTP reads 192.168.0.158). As for the port, I had to change it to 10 because if I have it set at 21, I'll get an error saying the port is already in use. I also gave it a shot from a computer at work and I still can't log in. If I use 127.0.0.1, nothing displays even when I had a folder set up to be accessible in anonymous mode. I'll try again with SmartFTP at home and I'll post the messages so you can see if you can identify where the problem lies.

1. port forward through router whatever port you use to your internal IP

2. on domain settings tab in Serv-U enter 'Use any available IP address' in the Domain IP Address box

3. In the advanced domain settings check the Allow PASV mode transfers...but do not put an IP in.

should work..mine does and so do the 4 others i've setup this way
