An A64 system for gaming (ANY, I miss having a proper gaming system at the moment).

A Powermac dual G5 with a 20" Apple cinema display. Just to get more room than the dual monitor 2048*768 system I have just now. Big work pieces need lots of screen room!!

Would keep my iBook cos me luvs it :D

Three 1U servers: A dual Opteron 252 running Linux; A dual Opteron 252 running Windows Server 2003; An Apple xServe with dual 2.3Ghz G5s. These would mostly be used for web development work on the different platforms, but they would get a good few Folding units in as well. ;)

Dougal.

Basically I dream of a laptop looking like a powerbook,

with a macosx similar O.S. BUT fully PC apps compatible (no emulation etc. just running them as if on a pc...lets wait and see the next macos for x86), with the power of the dream machine of a 2007 hardcore gamer,

with a 12 hours capable battery (running at full speed, e.g running GTA s.andreas minimized while working with matlab and listening to MP3s) ,

no noise, no heat.

I'm ready to pay for such a baby, but I want a sort of leasing contract to change it with the new model (without having to sell/buy every time)

You see...I don't ask too much :-P

I think they wont be able to reach such high speed as 12ghz with silicone based systems, silicome age is near the end, they are looking for ways, that instead of transfering electricity, to transfer light through the chips, I?d like to get one of those!

Antec P180 or Thermaltake Armor

AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 (room to move up to dual-core once it's firmly established)

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe

SLI'd 7800 GTX graphics

4 GB Corsair XMS Xpert

Four 74 GB Raptors in RAID 1+0

Four 300 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 drives in RAID 1+0 (may need a seperate controller)

Two seperate 300 GB Maxtor DiamondMax 10 drives (for testing different OSes without risk)

PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 510 SLI

Saitek Eclipse

Logitech MX1000 and MX518

Logitech Z-5500 Digital

Two Plextor PX-716A/SW

Mitsumi 7-in-1 Floppy/memory card drive

Phase-change cooling over everything, including the hard drives (4 Raptors run hot!)

Apple 30-inch Cinema display and Dell UltraSharp 2001FP

Windows XP Pro SP2

Windows XP x64

Windows 2000 Pro

Ubuntu Linux

Xandros 3.0 Deluxe

Fedora Core (most recent release)

"OS X86" (if Apple ever decides to make OS X for any x86 system)

Oh, and throw in a case window, a couple of lights, noise dampening, and a couple backup UPSes.

All that = :D  :woot: (Y) plus total envy from friends :D

Let me point out to all you 7800 GTX SLI guys that two X850 XT PE's in Crossfire mode are better than the next gen nVidia SLIed cards... sad but true. Just wait until the R520 is out... heck, a heavily modded X800XT PE can beat a stock 7800 GTX easily, not to mention nVidia's drivers are set to Balanced at default and ATI's at High Quality.

I originally thought Deep Thought - the second greatest computer in the universe - but now, I want THE greatest computer in the Universe. I don't know what it's called but it can find out the answer to the ultimate answer of the universe which is 42.

Limitless, but not silly eh?

I would choose something like this...

A cluster of 25 Powermac G5's in my basement. This supercomputer will be connected to a central 'house' computer. This central machine will then be networked to every computer in the house (kitchen, media center, office, bedrooms). This system will allow for quick access to many terrabytes of information from any machine in the house, and total control of house utilities such as gas, water, climate control, lighting and security.

Each room in my house would have it's own specialized computer.

Kitchen

A system which provides cooks with recipies and ingredient inventory. The fridge would keep track of it's contained food, and automatically organize and prepare online grocery orders.

Lounge

Media Center machine connected to A/V equipment. Can access any Video or Audio from 'House' data store. Can also be used for conferencing and for Gaming.

Bedrooms

Every bedroom equiped with laptop docking station (for laptop of owner's choice), complete with display, mouse, keyboard, speakers, of users choice.

Office

Custom IBM machine capable of manipulating multiple media streams, recording up to several weeks of HiDef footage from multiple sources simultaneously. Can render photo-realistic images. Used mainly for Profession.

Safe Room

Security base. Monitors every area of the house, and of any other equiped properties. Meant for emergency use, but can also be used to monitor house occupancy to maximize heat / water efficiency.

Every system is governed by 'House' Machine, and can work in conjunction with a peer machine. Every peice of information come across by any machine at any time is recorded in the 'House' system. Every bit of information from keystrokes to temperture analysis logs.

And that's just the beginning.
