Hi,

I have a crossover cable connecting 2 computers. The Primary computer has another NIC that is connected to AT&TBI Cable Internet.

The other computer has internet and all but it can't see the primary computer shares so I can't access the drives and stuff. I had to assign a AT&TBI ip to the machine for it to be able to go online but is there any I can set this up so I can see the shares and also go online.

I am also having the problem that when I wanna play unreal online i can only have one computer online. I think this is because the primary ip is shared between pcs and it can only be used for one program at once. Please correct me if I am wrong and if anyone has any info on this let me know.

Dan

Operating System - Windows XP Pro

Method of connection sharing: The Internet is shared with Windows XP's Internet Connection Sharing but I also have Sygate Office Networking if that helps any.

The Internet IP is DHCP Assigned by AT&TBI. At the moment the 2 NICs that are connected together via crossover cable are each statically assigned an AT&TBI ip but i would like to get around this but have shares and internet still work.

The problem is that you want to give the NIC on the private LAN side a private address not an Internet IP, you want something like 192.168.0.1 as well as a private IP on the 2nd machine. This will also fix the problem with your shares not working.

EDIT: Set 2nd machine to use DHCP as it should get an IP from the machine running ICS.

Hi all,

Just asking if u guys can help me with this...

I am on BT Broadband at the moment and they're on a Non-Nat system. I am connected to them via an Alcatel ADSL USB modem.

The thing is..I am also connected to 5 other computers in my house via LAN and a network hub and i desperately need advice as to how i can enable ICS on the other pc and direct them to point to my pc as the Internet gateway out...

Now, BT says that I can only connect to one pc using their connection but I am of the opinion that ICS is possible if done correctly...so I would really appreciate it if any one can help me out in this..

Many thanks.

Eric:)

Eric, first of all you will need to have every nic set to uptain an ip automatically.. ALL of them. on your desktop, right click on My Network Places and choose properties. you should see the Alcatel modem there. right click on it and choos properties also. look for the sharing tab or whatever it may be under depending on your OS, enable sharing for the USB Alcatel modem. i would then reboot that pc. now for your other pc's if you set them to obtain an ip automattically, you should be able to reboot them and obtain an ip from the machine running ICS.

how do you have the pc with interent connected to the hub? is it connected to a regular port, upling, wan or anything similar?

Thanks for the adive you've given...The thing is I have already set the rest of the workstations to obtain IP from my computer which serves as a DHCP server which btw, my computer is the one connected to the USB modem and is hosting the ICS service and as I have said previously, my computer connects to the other pc via a network hub. But BT has clearly stated in it's TOS that it will only connect to one computer...So anyone out there with similar predicament, pls. let me knowif you have a workaround to this problem..

Many thanks

Eric:(

    • Plenty of info (benchmarks etc) out there about how turning off e-cores can increase performance in certain workloads. Which tells me that Microsoft or Intel can’t get this mess of cores sorted out. At work we have this lab and someone was testing (TrueNas performance testing) ESXi on a white box setup that had a 13700K in it and ESXi would purple screen every time until they turned off ecores.
    • I've been using OneDrive for photos and documents since Windows 8.1 came out and it's been the best way to keep a backup of what I have. I also use GoogleDrive on my phone with Android 15 to back up my phone. Over the past 12 years, I've seen people losing data on their PC or phone because they don't use cloud services. Even though I warn them to use them. Especially those who make money working on their PC with thousands of files. A 1TB cloud service is extremely cheap these days and there's no reason for you not to use one. I've seen people losing valuable data on their phone because they don't use GoogleDrive on their phone and this is much more common than on a PC. On Windows, I've seen people having hardware problems with their HD and SSD and losing all their data just because they refused to use OneDrive, which offered the backup option. There's still an external SSD as a second copy to be used together with your OneDrive. Bitlocker is completely safe, you will only have problems with it if you use bad programs that mess with the integrity of Windows. Your iPhone and Android also have encryption and if you mess with the system gears it can bug and you can lose your data too. Windows 11 is perfect if used correctly. But people are stupid enough to buy a brand new car, open the engine and start messing with it until it stops working, and then go to the car manufacturer to complain that it stopped working just because the user messed up the engine.
