Deleting files that will not delete.

I downloaded some files off of Limewire ( :happy: ) but they do not run, and they do not delete either.

How can I deal with this?

Try booting into safe mode with command prompt to delete them. Of course, first try a regular restart to see if that helps. One time, I downloaded a file to my desktop and could not delete it, but when I restarted it was gone. It appeared that the desktop would simply not refresh it's view so the file could be shown as gone.

What type of files are they? What's the error say? Did you exit LimeWire because sometimes you can't open them or delete them because it thinks LimeWire it still using it.

What I have done in the past is to shutdown limewire (or the P2P app)

1) rename the folder where the 'undeletable' file is but remember the original folder name

2) create a new folder w/ the original name

3) move (not copy) all of the files ~except the undeletable~ from the renamed folder to the new folder

4) delete the renamed folder (that contais the undeletable) and answer yes when it asks

If I remember correctly, the reason it wont delete is because the file name has some funny characters in it that confuses windows. I remember reading about doing this to a friend as a practical joke.

Usually this problem is due to the fact that LimeWire is still running and file access is denied. After a shutdown, you can usually remove the file.

Most of my undeletable files can be deleted after a reboot.

KillBox is a cool little app for file\folder deletion. Probably not necessary in this case, but it comes in extremely handy while doing virus\spyware removal.

you can also get this little tool that will tell you what process is locking the file. Stoping the process shuold let you delete the file.

Tried Unlocker before, somehow, I can't start the program anymore, even with fresh install. It's great when it worked. :(
