Yes, maxthon inherits most of IE's vulnerabilities. But there are some differences.

Maxthon is a MDI (multiple document interface) design. By nature maxthon would always show the active window/tab's title/address in the browser's title/address bar, making most of the "spoofing vulnerabilities" limp. Maxthon also has some security features on top of IE. Depending on browsing habbits, such features could greatly enhance browser security without lossing much convenience.

Maxthon is also keen in keeping the browser as secure as possible. For record, maxthon fixed IE's extremely critical buffer overflow vulnerability by itself 7 days after disclosed by secunia, several weeks ahead of IE's patch. maxthon also fixed the non-IE tabbed browsing vulnerability just 5 days after disclosure, much earlier than any tabbed browsers (eg both FF and avant took nearly 4 months).

So I think that maxthon is more secure than IE, and perhaps most IE based browsers as well. That says, maxthon users are at least more secure than 85% of browser users. Not to bad I guess. :)

My worst nag about Maxthon:

When it's set as the default browser, and a 3rd party program, or email link is clicked and Maxthon's not open, it doesn't open WITH all your tabs open in addition to the new tab, it wipes them all out, and opens JUST the tab from the external link. ANNOYING.

Otherwise, totally happy with Maxthon.

There's a setting you can change to prevent that. Look around in the options.. (it's under Advanced>Browsing)

I can't find it. I tried the 'Open all links when drop a selection' but that didn't do it. Good thing I saved a Group before I did it. Any other suggestions where that option is? I'm excited now.. that's my last gripe about Maxthon

I tested MyIE2 and Avant years ago, I went with Avant because I can customize it to exactly the way I want. I can't remember what was missing in MyIE2, but one thing was to add the Ad Block button on the toolbar, there's no way to do it in MyIE2. Also, firefox can't do it either, Avant browser is the only one that could. I'll check out Maxthon (god I hate this name) again to see if there are major improvements since MyIE2.

crap, gave you erroneus info. Sorry, man. Do you have "handle program's DDE call when Maxthon is running" checked? I don't know why your version should be doing that, since I've never had that happen...

I use it, I dig it, I promote it to buddies. I have the thing set to NO SKIN and it looks and works simple. Here's a screenie:

I like the GROUPS feature a ton:

I also like how you can toggle things on and off for security and convenience:

I'm all over it. It seems like it's what IE should have been all along. :)

By Maxthon not open, you mean Maxthon is not running at all? Or that it is minimized and has open tabs and when you click on a link, all those tabs are closed?

I can't seem to dupe the behavior. I just clicked a link in an OE 6 email and it came up as a tab right next to all my open tabs.

If you want, I can provide you a list of what my config options are and you can check against that if you wish. Just let me know. :)

Ive never heard of this browser, but thanks for the info all, will give it a shot when i get home.

If ya need any help configuring, just post.

There is a config sheet I could post if you want that covers some of the more helpful settings.

Good luck, and enjoy. :)

Maxthon is really great, everyone should give it a try.

For all the Microsoft haters, you can make it look like Firefox if you just wish:

maxthonwinstripe1cd.gif

Maxthon is a very customizable browser, with plenty of awesome plugins and skins.

It's consuming very little memory resources, 3mb with a blank tab. Firefox with a blank tab is using 20mb(!!!).

Anyway, I think Maxthon is definitely better than Firefox, and you should all try it.

    • IBM reveals sub-1nm chip technology, production expected in another 5 years by Pradeep Viswanathan TSMC is now leading the chip manufacturing industry with its 2nm-class process node called N2. Samsung Foundry also has a 2nm-class process node called SF2. TSMC says N2 entered volume production in Q4 2025. Samsung says SF2 started mass production in 2025. Today, IBM announced the world’s first sub-1-nanometer chip technology, marking another major semiconductor research milestone. The new technology is based on a 0.7nm, or 7-angstrom, node and uses a new transistor architecture called “nanostack.” The new design vertically stacks and staggers nanosheet-based transistors so that more components can fit into the same chip area while also improving performance and power efficiency. IBM claims that this new sub-1nm chip can pack nearly 100 billion transistors onto a chip the size of a fingernail. This offers almost twice the density, up to 50 percent higher performance, or 70 percent better energy efficiency when compared to IBM's 2nm node design announced back in 2021. Also, IBM mentioned that this new architecture can deliver 40 percent SRAM scaling. It is important to consider that this announcement from IBM is a research milestone rather than a near-term process node launch. Back in 2021, IBM unveiled the world’s first 2nm chip design, claiming 50 billion transistors on a fingernail-sized chip and major performance and efficiency gains. Five years later, IBM’s 2nm technology has still not entered mainstream commercial production. That is because IBM is no longer a major commercial chip manufacturer. It sold its chip manufacturing business to GlobalFoundries years ago and has since then focused only on semiconductor research, IP development, and partnerships. To productize its 2-nm chip technology, IBM partnered with Japan’s Rapidus, but it has not resulted in anything shipping at scale. IBM says that its new sub-1nm technology can reach production as early as within the next five years. If that happens, it will likely depend on manufacturing partners, advanced EUV tooling, and years of yield improvements.
    • It's funny when thieves accuse other thieves of stealing. Ai companies just blatantly siphoned all the knowledge of the internet without consent and are now selling it with their service... so excuse me if I find this a bit ironic.
