m760
anyone know of a DECENT (low memory useage) Virtual Window Manager for Windows, as of now I have been loading litestep with just the vwm.dll so I can have support for multiple windows, I know there must be a lil app somewhere that does the same without me having to run an instance of LS. this might be in the wrong place on the forum, but I know all of us desktop customizers are into a lil bit of everything so I thought I'd drop a line. Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/34633-vwm-for-windows/ Share on other sites
SP33Dl2acer
If you have power tools installed... it gives you an option to ad a VWM (desktop manager in power tools) to your task bar. You should know this... but just incase right click on your taskbar and you'll find it under tooldbars Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/34633-vwm-for-windows/#findComment-336522 Share on other sites
m760
yeah i've tried it, its awful, i rather an independent app thanks tho :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/34633-vwm-for-windows/#findComment-336554 Share on other sites
chavo
uh, litestep is an independent app. and it uses very little memory, only ~4k here with desktop.dll, popup2.dll, hotkey.dll and geekamp.dll loaded. I would stick with litestep if i were you it's the most configurable vwm, hotkey, winamp controller, popupmenu, shell, etc. there is. stubear
Give Desktop Plus a shot. Their 2.0 version has been in beta forever but it works rather well and the 1.0 version is still pretty good. m5brane
Try these: 1) VERN by One Guy Coding 2) JSPager Search for these on download.com or google. Both work very well and are actual VW *managers*, not those crappy "hot keys to switch desks" apps. Also, JSPager is incredibly easy to skin. To Save space, the newest version of BandIt will swallow JSPage into the task bar, though I didn't get it to work with VERN. m760
that jspager works great, now to find some good skins... got any ideas? :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/34633-vwm-for-windows/#findComment-337724 Share on other sites
m760
actually, that lil jspager ends up using 7meg of memory..and the other hotkeys program using 5 I am actually thinking maybe I should just make a lil neat package of litestep w/ Hotkey and VWM. I know I must not be the only one out there that loves a VWM + Hotkey support. So if anyone out there is up for the challenge of making a nice lil package we can possible distro, drop me a private message or email. P.S. Litestep w/ just ckVWM.dll and Hotkeys.dll loading is about ~6meg mem total so its a better deal. m760
*bump* This wouldnt be a Litestep project in essence, just an exe and a few dll's to load ontop of explorer to get the VWM and hotkey support :) actually got most of it done, donno how i'd make an installer n whatnot but, i figured i'd how to do it up!! :) now all i need is some decent graphics for the VWM when its showing... It has support for hotkeys as well as a number of ways to integrate it into the Windows shell.
