[NHL] Report: Bertuzzi suspension could continue

Recommended Posts

Todd Bertuzzi's suspension could continue 10-20 more games after the season begins. Bettman could add the additional games soon. Bertuzzi was suspended in March of 2004 after sucker punching Steve Moore.

still not saying what he did was right, but i know with my experiance in playing hockey things on the ice are different then what you see from the stands or on tv, when someone on the other team hurts one of your players, especially a team leader like naslund was, at least in my case, you kinda wanna do something about it

still he should've just fought him or skated away and not sucker punched him, but i know i've gone crazy on people before who've hurt my players:)

edit: im not trying to flame or anything either, and i dont normally fight in hockey anymore im just making a statement

i used to play hockey and know what its like too. But admit it, Naslun was skating through center with his head down. Thats asking for a hit, doesn't matter who u are, and personally i dont think it was that much from behind as it was from the side. In the game Moore got knocked out, i beleive he took a beating along the boards and actually got into a scrap with Brad May if i recall correctly

I had heard this on SC one morning. Yes bayrider he had already fought May earlier in the game. I understand that they are trying to make a statement but I think that he should either be allowed to play game one of the season or be bared for life. None of this wishy washy crap. Take a stand and stick to it. He has not played in over a year and a half. Now if you aren't prepared to let him come back now, don't let him ever come back.

I am a huge Betuzzi fan but the league needs to take a stand on this issue now so that Vancouver can decide what to do in regards to the cap.

The deal was a one year suspension and then we'll talk again. It party was dependant on Moore's condition after a year.

That was a similar to what they did with McSorely except that he decided to retire at the end of his season suspension. He was already in his mid-to-late 30s if I recall.

Bertuzzi hasn't even sat out what more than 20 games? and please don't come telling me because of the lockout that even counts because everyone sat out and the lockout had 0 affect on how his team could have played since they didn't even play.

He should continue being suspended as long as it takes. Moore probably will never play again.

Give him the 20 games. Make him sit out WHEN PEOPLE ARE PLAYING so that he understands how stupid his actions were.

You don't think he was thinking about that the whole time he was missing the playoffs. He's had a year and a half to think about what he did. If it's merely for teaching him a lesson then I'm sure he's had more then enough time to think about it. All I ask for is that the league take a stand. Either let him play or ban him. 20 extra games will do nothing for him or Steve Moore. The only thing this could affect is how the Canucks spend their cap money. If he is going to be out for 1/4 of the season is it really worth keeping him or should they buy him out.

@ fred: The circumstances between this and McSorely are completely different. There was no work stoppage for the Brashear deal. There was no such thing as a cap and even if there was McSorely doesn't carry a Bertuzzi sized ticket.

I just ask that the league take a stand. Either make an example of him and ban him or just let the man play. It has been a year and a half and everytime it comes time to review his suspension or whatever the play gets shown all over again. This needs to become water under the bridge and stop the continuous portrayal of the league as being savage. It can do no good for the league at all.

Yes he has. He missed 13 regular season games and 7 playoff games. That's 20 by itself. Then he didn't play in the 2 tournaments. So I'm guessing around 35 games so far.

    • Browser vendors pen open letter to Microsoft saying "enough is enough" by Usama Jawad We have seen Microsoft resort to questionable tactics in the past to get more customers to use Edge, such as "bribing" people to use Edge, testing new behavior so that Edge loads automatically on startup every time, and pressuring OEMs to exclusively bundle Edge in Windows PCs. However, the company often receives pushback not only from customers but also from the Browser Choice Alliance (BCA). Now, the collective has penned an open letter to the Redmond tech firm to highlight its dissatisfaction with its practices. For those unaware, BCA is a coalition that touts several browser vendors as its members, including Google Chrome, Midori, Opera, Vivaldi, BrowserWorks, and Wavebox. Its latest open letter to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasizes that "enough is enough" and that user choice on Windows should be respected. It claimed that the company is abusing its dominant position in the PC space to push customers to its first-party browser, even if they don't want to use it. To do this, it resorts to shady tactics, some of which we highlighted at the start of this piece. It says that Microsoft is making it very difficult for users to set their preferred browser across all touchpoints. This is problematic as PCs are becoming even more prevalent in the AI era, so user choice is being restricted across even more devices, further frustrating users (and competing browser vendors). As such, BCA has urged Microsoft to take the following actions to level the playing field: Allow browser suppliers to compete for preinstallation and default deals with Windows PC manufacturers End dark patterns targeted at users seeking to download and effectively use other browsers (including as system-level default) Bring back the ability for users to make switching default browsers simple and transparent with a “single click” change for all relevant file types and apps (including PDFs) Open all web links in the users’ selected system-level browser of choice Eliminate manipulative Microsoft-exclusive banners pushing Edge in Windows, including when users are searching for other browsers Stop using operating system updates to push users back to Edge Remove the restrictive configurations of existing S mode devices that block the usage of third-party browsers. It believes that all browsers should compete on merit, as this will drive innovation and healthy competition. Despite its strong wording and publication of the letter openly, it's unclear if Microsoft will pay any heed to the BCA and if this will result in any tangible downstream benefits. We'll likely find out in due time.
