Joint Statement by NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and Chief Lobbyist Chris Cox On Passage of the "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act"

Friday, July 29, 2005

Today, in an historic vote in Second Amendment history, freedom prevailed.

When it comes to something as fundamental as the Second Amendment, the American people are determined to protect this freedom. That?s what happened in the United States Senate today.

The final outcome of the U.S. Senate vote on S. 397 -- the ?Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act? -- is a groundbreaking step forward for law-abiding firearm manufacturers, retailers and owners in this country. The National Rifle Association (NRA) invested many years trying to pass this needed legislation that will put an end to politically motivated predatory lawsuits.

simply put, because i can. i collect guns and use target shooting as a hobby away from computers. i go to work and deal with computers. on the weekends, i shoot guns at old computers and computer parts.

if you've never fired a gun, dont knock it because you dont like the idea that they're dangerous. knowning how to handle guns properly helps to prevent accidents and shooting guns are actually pretty fun. the reason i choose assault rifles to shoot is that they are made to be reliable. i can go months without cleaning my ak and it will fire everytime.

the reason we can buy them in america is that it's our right to bare arms and protect ourselves. the country was founded with that in mind. if the government makes guns illegal, then only the criminals will have guns.

Funny story bout that right to have a gun... Only if you're in the militia do you have a constitutional right to own a gun. Anyone else with one is just working on the good will of the gov't. Aside from that, and back on topic, I'd personally pick the M4, or any armalite-style series for that matter. Never having fired either in real life, I personally like the smaller size and design of the M4. But then again, something about wood trim on a firearm kicks ass.

The current United States Code, Title 10 (Armed forces), section 311 (Militia: Composition and Classes), paragraph (a) states "The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard." Section 313 of Title 32 refers to persons with prior military experience who could serve as officers. These persons remain members of the militia until age 65. Paragraph (b) further states," The classes of the militia are--(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and (2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.

Morality aside...

I really hate the use of M4s in games and such, because they are thought to be some super firearm.

The M4 is for mobility, to be lightweight, and to replace pistols. It has the 5.56mm NATO round. Not the greatest, but effective. If I were to use this, it would be if I was some 'special forces' guy who would have it 'modded out,' (as some of you put it) AKA scope, silencer, etc. If you want to use an Armalite series weapon, skip the carbine crap and use a full size rifle, M-16 or AR-15.

However, in regular combat, the AK-47 would be much better. 7.62mm Soviet rounds aren't exactly the greatest, but they do quite well. The AK can field strip much better, and is much more rugged. (Cheaper, too)

That's just my opinion.

My dad has both and he's used both (in Vietnam). He likes the M4 SOPMOD better, but then again.. he was Force Recon and didn't get the same old crappy rifles as GI (general infantry). One of his buddies has a Barret M82A1 and I bet that that is the best rifle.

And yes it isn't an assault rifle... I know. You can't beat point five o.

Well it depends on the environment. I know you said Afghanistan, but the open country side or a small town or village.

The M4 has better accuracy and distance but the AK47 has more penetration and knock down power. You can ask anyone that fought in Fallujah (Nov. 04) to testify.

Although I do have more gaming knowledge then real factual knowledge of games. I know games are mad in interpretations of guns so I watch like crap loads of documentarys about guns. A couple on just AK-47 vs M4A1

Ak-47 is more powerful and doesnt jam as much I'd go with the M4A1 as it is much more accurate and has teh silencer option and can be scoped with a grenade launcher. :D

From a gaming point of view I would like a SteyerAug as its what the Australian Military use.

There are similar accessories also for the AK47 although no silencers.

    • Sadly, that is the state of things. It's basically considered acceptable for any random app running on your computer to use 1+ GB of RAM, and install space, lol, no one even seems to consider that.
    • EU Commission explains why Siri AI isn't launching in the EU, and Apple is to blame by Hamid Ganji Image via Apple This week at Apple’s 2026 developers conference, the iPhone maker unveiled the upgraded Siri after more than a year of delays. The new Siri is now called Siri AI, and it's powered by Google Gemini models. While Siri AI is preparing to roll out to Apple users worldwide, the company’s EU customers might need to wait much longer before getting their hands on the new assistant. Shortly after announcing iOS 27, Apple said in a blog post that Siri AI is not coming to the EU anytime soon due to hurdles posed by the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and other regulatory requirements. To comply with the DMA in the EU, Apple apparently needs to open Siri AI to rival assistants on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. Apple has refused to do so, which has resulted in Siri AI being delayed for its EU users. The company argues that such a move would put users’ privacy at risk. In a statement to Neowin, a European Commission spokesperson provided more details about why Siri AI will not be rolled out to Apple customers in the region. The statement first noted that the DMA does not prohibit Apple from launching its services in the EU and that the company is simply required to comply with the law. The European Commission spokesperson added that, since Apple is considered a gatekeeper under the DMA, it is “obliged to give third parties access to equivalent features as they give to its own products. Because the DMA is precisely about giving users the choice to use the product they find best suits their needs.” Moreover, the spokesperson said the Commission has been in contact with Apple, though the company “did not develop proposals for DMA compliant interoperability solutions.” The statement also clarified that companies designated as gatekeepers cannot leverage their status and products, such as operating systems, to favor their own AI services. The first public beta of iOS 27 will roll out next month, while the stable version is expected to launch this fall following the release of the iPhone 18 series. It remains unclear when Apple will be able to resolve its DMA-related compliance issues with the European Commission and bring Siri AI to its European customers.

    • This has been on the roadmap for years, nothing really new here. This is one of the few areas where Microsoft is making Windows better. Universal print is a very good things and so far works as expected. The last step is ending the option for 3rd parties to add traditional custom drivers. It is somewhat of a hurdle, but it is for a long-term good. The downside is that printer manufactures are likely going to use this as an excuse to force users onto new printers. Considering this roadmap has been public for years, then printers sold during that time should be covered...but I'm sure they will have a different opinion.
